Light A Fire for Learning Luncheon raises over $135K

for students

Hovercraft, talking robots and an electric car were on display at the 11th annual Northshore Schools Foundation Light a Fire for Learning Luncheon held April 8 at the Lynnwood Convention Center.

The event, attended by more than 400 people, highlighted the Northshore School District's Computer Science, Composites and Automotive programs and emphasized the value of hands-on Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM) learning in the classrooms.

Students from Woodmoor Elementary, Kenmore, Timbercrest and Skyview Junior Highs, and Bothell and Woodinville High Schools were on hand to demonstrate their creative and technical skills, showing how they are using computer aided design (CAD), engineering and fabrication to create projects and get ahead in their education. Read more here.

Our Millionth Dollar celebrated:

  100,000 students impacted

In March of this year the Foundation celebrated the landmark accomplishment that has been 16 years in the making: We granted our $1,000,000th dollar to the students of the Northshore School District.

As a part of our regular granting process, the District and teachers always tell us how many students are directly and immediately impacted by the grant funds. Our records indicate that more than 100,000 students have been impacted since 1995. Most grants give back for several consecutive years creating a collective impact of literally millions.

In honor of our millionth dollar granted, guests at the Light A Fire for learning Luncheon were gifted with a commemorative $1,000,000 dollar bill.

If you were unable to attend the luncheon but you would like your very own commemorative million-dollar bill, send us your address and we will mail you one!

You can help us grant our next million by 2017, by staying involved at the level you are involved at now. Introduce one friend to the Foundation, and help them get involved, and we can meet that next million by 2016!

"Imagine what we can do with our next million!"

Name the New High School

It's time to put on your thinking cap and help Northshore School District name the new comprehensive high school slated to open in the fall of 2017! An online survey has been launched for students, parents, community members and staff to tell the District what the new high school should be named and why. The online survey will run from March 12 through April 30.

 GiveBIG - May 6th
The Seattle Foundation's GiveBIG is a one-day, online charitable giving event to inspire people to give generously to nonprofit organizations who make our region a healthier and more vital place to live.

Each donation* made to The Seattle Foundation's website between midnight and midnight (Pacific Daylight Time)
on Tuesday, May 6, 2014, will receive a prorated portion of the matching funds (or "stretch") pool. The amount of the "stretch" depends on the size of the stretch pool and how much is raised in total donations on GiveBIG day.

More information about GiveBIG day.

This year, in an effort to be responsive to our donors, the Northshore Schools Foundation will NOT be sending out a series of emails reminding you of the day.  Rest assured the the Foundation is eligible to receive gifts through this program, and the proceeds of the on-line event will be designated to support the Community Schools Programs.
