who have been impacted by your support.   Whether you are a Facebook friend, an Ambassador, a supporter, a recipient, or a member of the 365 Club; you are an important part of making our mission a reality in the lives of students, everyday.  Thank you!

Helping all students graduate career and college ready

"I never recognized myself as gifted, and school came easy to me. I never learned to study until I almost failed my first year of college. Kids who weren't as smart as me had skills that I had never learned, and understood how to work the system; it was humiliating to figure that out the hard way."

Doesn't every child deserve to make a full year of progress each school year?   Investing in Northshore School District Highly Capable programs provides the support our advanced students need to meet their potential.

Make your end-of-the-year donation

in support of highly capable and college affiliated high school programs today and you can help us meet that goal!

Or make a year end tax-deductible

general gift to support the many programs of the Foundation!

Your involvement in the Foundation has made 2013 one of our most successful years ever.  Thank you, we couldn't do it without you!

On behalf of the Board and myself, we are so looking forward to making connections for the good of our students and insuring that 2014 is our best year ever.

Happy New Year,

Carmin Dalziel, Executive Director
Northshore Schools Foundation

P.S.  For those of you who are considering making a larger donation as a part of your year-end tax strategy, our endowment fund is a great place to make a permanent investment in students.   Gifts of over $2500 can be designated to our operating endowment that has been formed to eventually fund ALL of our administrative costs so every new dollar would be donated directly to our students.   For more information contact us or our investment manager.

Do You Have
GRIT?

Angela Lee Duckworth has found that grit, or sustained perseverance for long term goals, is the single biggest predictor of future success -- whether you are a West Point cadet, a contestant in the National Spelling Bee, or a student in high school.  According to her, what our kids really need - more than IQ or EQ - is GRIT.   Watch this astounding 6 minute TED Talk .

The trouble is that according to Duckworth, the smartest, most advanced kids are often the ones who have the least grit. They enter each grade already knowing more than half of the planned curriculum, and learn so quickly and effortlessly, that highly capable students rarely even get the opportunity to develop grit.

Highly capable students need curriculum that challenges them: that provides material at the appropriate level, at a greater depth and complexity, at a faster pace, and to have opportunities to interact with peers who are working at the same level.

By ensuring that all of our students, even our most capable ones, are challenged academically, we help all of our students reach their potential.

What is grit?

  • Self-discipline
  • Perseverance through challenge
  • Ability to withstand stress
  • Tolerate and learn from failure
  • Perseverance and passion for long-term goals
  • Delayed gratification
  • Maintaining effort and interest over years despite failure, adversity, and plateaus in progress
  • Stamina: Winning the marathon, not the sprint
