Basic education isn't enough for our kids.

Despite recent gains in education funding, it takes more to provide the better-than-basic education our students deserve and the global workforce demands. Limited state funding restricts the ability to fund teacher training and provide many programs designed to help our diverse student population succeed.
The Northshore Schools Foundation is committed to enhancing student education. We do so by providing existing educators the opportunity to improve their teaching ability and providing students with increased access to books and technology within their classrooms.  Grants from the Foundation fund literacy efforts, learning support for both advanced learners and students with learning challenges, STEM programs, music appreciation, National Board Certification for teachers, English as a second language materials, financial management curriculum and more.  There are several organizations that support individual schools, but at the Northshore Schools Foundation, we support the academic success of students district-wide, in alignment with district goals, and impact every child's entire school path through Northshore.

For 18 years, the Northshore Schools Foundation has provided funds to help our outstanding teachers offer a first-rate education to every Northshore student.  You can join us this year in making an impact in our students' success through ALL IN FOR KIDS.

The future of Northshore School District students depends on you.

Making an Impact, Every day.

(Making 39,000 impacts this year... from a $103,800 donation this fall.)

Northshore School District students will benefit more than 39,000 times from thousands of dollars being awarded to their schools and classrooms by the Northshore Schools Foundation.

Northshore Schools Foundation Executive Director Carmin Dalziel and President Sherry Krainick presented a check for $103,800 to School Board President Julia Lacey and Superintendent Larry Francois at the Sept. 24 school board meeting.

Funds were raised during the 2012-13 school year through numerous programs presented by the Foundation, including the annual All in for Kids Campaign,  The Pour for Northshore, Light A Fire for Learning Luncheon, Retired NSD Staff Brunch, Milk Money community change drive, designated workplace giving and several other partnership events.

"We are grateful to the parents, staff and community members whose donations to the Northshore Schools Foundation help provide support for important academic programs, for students and professional development," said Lacey.

A district-wide granting process identified the needs of the NSD and aligned those needs with Foundation funding initiatives. Funds from the grant will be directed to these key projects over the next school year:

  • Making school accessible by supporting McKinney Vento students, Community Schools, Natural Leaders and the District Prevention Team.
  • Encouraging literacy support for junior high special education students with mid-level novels.
  • Providing career and technical education programs district-wide.
  • Supporting students who are excelling with college-level textbooks and programs to support highly capable elementary math students.

The grant allows $26,000 for classroom teachers who are enhancing their lesson plans to incorporate new teaching strategies and projects while insuring that students meet required benchmarks for learning.

New elementary teachers professional development and National Board Teacher Certification will receive $24,000 of the grant.

Additionally, $2,500 is a result of a partnership with the Northshore PTSA, which has supported emergency preparedness in schools for the past decade. That partnership, along with the Puget Sound Energy Foundation, will allow four elementary schools and one junior high to receive shelves for their new emergency containers, insuring that supplies stay accessible and usable longer.

This granting process is one of three ways the Foundation provides funding support for the Northshore School District. In the 2012-13 school year, the Foundation awarded more than $140,000 in grants to support district-wide programs.
