Story of the Week

Rally at Downey HS

 Greetings!

As students swarmed into the quad of Downey High School with open ears to hear about Jesus they were met by a team of rappers who shared the good news through the artistic style of hip-hop. Hundreds of students crowded around the stage as the two Christian rappers told the story of God's forgiveness and love. They shared the story of their encounter with God through these songs and students were drawn into the message flowing out of the speakers. As the students received the CDs of the music that was being performed, they were able to take with them the great message that they had heard at this rally. This would be an easy way for them to hear more about Jesus and also share His good news with others.

The youth pastor that came to support the Christian club then gave a powerful message about the hope that Jesus gives to the world. He then allowed for students to respond and ask questions. Christian club members were ready to answer questions and pray for students. The bold Christians of Downey were not standing around waiting to be approached; they made the initiative to start friendly conversations with their fellow students about Jesus.

The Christian club members were excited that they were able to make an impact on their school not only by bringing people to talk about what they believed in, but by talking to students about their personal experiences being followers of God. The CSP mentors of the Christian club were proud of the hard work that their mentees had done and it had all paid off.

Many students heard about the Good news of Jesus Christ, Christian club members were able to share their faith, and the local church came to support. The quad was filled with smiles and good music and most importantly the message of God. Paola Urbina, Christian club leader at Downey high school believes that "God is still not finished with Downey High School, there are still things he wants to do. I hope by the end of this school year that many lives will be transformed by the power of God."
