Story of the Week

Rally at Katella HS

 Greetings!

Outreach Rally season is in full swing! We have an update for you from Katella High where the Christian club hosted a whole week of outreach events last week.

The final day of Katella's rally week was full of excitement as students rushed in at lunchtime wanting to hear more about what they had discovered the previous days. The classroom was full of students who now heard of a new hope and happiness.

Christian club leader, Denis Luis shared her encounter with God and the changes in her life that had resulted. Denis was not the planned speaker for the rally, but after receiving news that the student who was going to speak was sick, she took the opportunity to tell her story. She spoke about her life growing up in a home where she did not feel loved and the attempt to find something to fill that void. When all of her attempts had failed, she had an encounter with God and she felt a love that she had needed all along. She encouraged her fellow students not to make bad choices looking for love in the wrong places. She also encouraged them to seek out the love of God that she had found.

After the rally Denis was so full of joy that she could not stop smiling and thanking God. "I felt the Holy Spirit spoke through me and the words I said were really powerful because [what I said] was everything that God has done in my life; everything he did in me he can do in other people."

Members of the California School Project who had gone to support the event were proud to see that the students they had worked with throughout the year were making an impact on their campus. Campus Mentor James Bumroongnangam "loved that she addressed the issue that life is hard." He said, "That is a number one lesson that you learn: life isn't easy, but there is somebody who really cares about you and it is definitely worth it to follow Jesus Christ, so I loved that message."

Denis and her club hope to see change in their school and to continue living out their Christian faith, talking to people on their campus who have never heard about Jesus and empowering and encouraging Christians to do the same.

Sincerely,
