Story of the Week

Updates, Stories, and Photos

 Greetings!

The spring semester is an extremely exciting, busy, and fruitful time of ministry for the California School Project. Spring break for APU and Biola happen back to back, and that means HomeTown trips are happening. Currently, there are 70 rallies planned for the Spring semester! Some of them have already occurred, and many are still on the calendar for April and May.

The busy season of ministry can be exciting to talk about large numbers, but we at CSP love to hone in on the personal growth happening in the lives of high school students. In light of this, below is a Q&A from Bible club leaders from El Modena High School.

Q&A WITH EL MODENA HIGH SCHOOL CLUB LEADERS

El Modena High School has been working hard with CSP and is motivated and ready to reach out to their school with the good news of Jesus Christ. The leaders of the high school are working to put on a four-day outreach event this semester. They are looking forward to doing the "Everything" skit at their school quad, giving their testimonies, and bringing in speakers to reach out to the school and answer questions that students might have about Christianity. Juniors Nathan Southerland and Annie Balius tell us about their experience working with California School Project and getting ready to become next years' club presidents!

How do you think CSP has helped you grow as a leader and as a Christian?

Nathan Southerland: Leadership goes had in hand with Christianity. God called us to be leaders and the way of being a servant the way Jesus taught other people by living out the gospel. Along with leadership skills it teaches you how to be a leader not only through guiding other people, but through serving.

Annie Balius: It is helpful to see everyone at CSP on fire and so passionate about the gospel and just being around Godly people, seeing their example has been such a blessing that God has put in my life. It has given me people to look up to.

What are some skills that you have learned from CSP and being part of leadership?

Nathan: Planning; how to get your plan together. How much detail you should go into and knowing the most important criteria for that. Also, getting other people involved and going to them individually; actually trying and being persistent in getting others involved.

Annie Balius: Our club has a lot of good ideas, but I think that CSP has helped a lot with showing us how to follow through with those ideas and make concrete plans. They have been really helpful in making plans happen and putting them into action.

Do you think this experience will help you lead the club next year?

Nathan: In Christianity you are not supposed to lead by yourself. It's not supposed to be your walk, it's supposed to be you walking as other believers help you and you help them. As iron sharpens iron, so learning leadership skills you learn ways to encourage people and kind of step into what's going on in their life. You help them along as they help you; sharpen them as they sharpen you.

What would you like to see done at your school this semester? What kind of an effect would you like to have on your campus?

Nathan: Well I want to see the outreach come together and I want to see a lot of people come but I guess I really want not just a lot of people to come to the club, but committed people to come. Because I know there are a lot of Christians at our school and I want them to feel welcome too. I want people to actually want to be involved.

Annie: I am really hoping more people show up. But I am not interested in numbers I would much rather have a good conversation about the gospel with a few people than have many show up and not really be receptive. I just want people to be open to hearing what we have to say. I really want to see God working on our campus. I feel like that's something I haven't seen too much of and I think where I am at right now with God I need to see his power and how he can change lives on our campus. This year I am just praying for God to just work in the students' lives and change lives.
