Story of the Week

Students Share their Faith

 Greetings!

The following story is an excerpt from a Fresno HomeTown trip blog post from the official CSP blog, http://blog.californiaschoolproject.com/ :

"In addition to helping put on outreach events at the schools, CSP leaders encouraged the students to personally share their faith with their peers.

During the Kick-off event, the students got a simulated experience with sharing their faith with the team. We were able to encourage and commission them before they went out and talked with other students. At each school, the club members did an excellent job of taking the initiative and starting conversations about the rallies and their faith.

The students of Edison High School personally shared their faith with many people. They were able to have 236 conversations throughout the week, presenting the good news of Jesus with 150 students. After each day, club president Rachel was able to see the power of God working through the leaders and the importance of relying on God in those conversations. The students were nervous the first day but also very excited. They split up into groups of two or three and then scattered across the campus talking to different students from different backgrounds in faith ranging from Catholics to Atheists to no religion at all. As the week progressed, students became more confident in their ability to simply share the good news of Christ with passion and joy.

One of the leaders, Valisha, had an intense conversation with an atheist friend of hers. This girl came to the rally during lunch and talked with the speaker afterwards. It was an encouragement to Valisha but also to others to see this girl's heart start to soften to the truth of Christ. She now wants to go to church with Valisha and learn more about what Christ has to offer her in this life. These stories bring life and power to the name of Christ and remind students of the power of his words in Matthew 28: 18-20 where it says, "Then Jesus came to them and said, "All authority in heave and on earth has been given to me. Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age. "

The students of Sunnyside High School personally shared their faith with many people as well. They were able to have 80 conversations during their 3 days of personally inviting people to the rallies and sharing the good news of Jesus with 35 students. None of the club leaders had ever taken the time to share the good news of Jesus with their peers so it was personally very exciting to see them gain confidence throughout those 3 days and trust in God's faithfulness to guide their words.

Finally, the students at Clovis High School personally shared their faith with many of the students on campus, presenting the good news of Jesus to 50 of them. Most of the leaders at Clovis High are soft spoken and it was really encouraging to CSP mentors Ahlia and Connor to see them be stretched by the Lord in this area.

Overall, personally sharing one's faith can have a huge impact on 3 high school campuses. There were 400 conversations throughout the week with 235 students hearing the good news of Jesus Christ. Because of student initiated witnessing, 235 students that desperately need the love of Jesus now have more knowledge about him because students at Edison, Sunnyside, and Clovis took a step of faith"
