Story of the Week

Boasting in Weakness

Greetings!

What better way to share the gospel then by faithfully witnessing every week? The SWAT (Student Witnessing and Training) teams at Biola partner mentors and high school students to witness at different high schools every day of the week.

Last Friday, Sean, a cluster leader, and a couple other campus mentors went to La Mirada High School to share the good news with students after school. They had the opportunity to share with two students who both accepted Christ.

Sean shares about leading Valerie and Christian to Christ

Valerie and Christian had both come from extremely difficult family backgrounds with their homes shattered by divorce. Valerie was homeless, sleeping on the floor in her aunt's house because she could not live with either of her parents. Christian was in a similar situation, as he and his sister were sleeping on the floor at his grandparent's house.

Sean explains, "I said to them, 'You seem like you could use some good news,' and they said 'yeah, that'd be good."

He walked through the whole Gospel with them, particularly stressing God as a father who wants a relationship with them. He said that if we confess, then God will come redeem and restore us. He told them that their new brothers and sisters in Christ would be their family when their other family can't.

They responded saying they would love to do that. "Right then and there they decided to give their lives to Christ," Sean said.

The crazy thing is that before this year, Sean had never actually led anyone to Christ on a witnessing day. But this year has been different.

"The big change is being intentional to offer [the Gospel] to people. It's the main component that makes the story cool. It could have ended with us praying for the students, but the Lord really put it on my heart to share the Gospel. None of this would have happened if we would have prayed and walked away. I think I have taken the next step in my life. You have got to make sure you are willing to share the Gospel in every conversation and be confident enough in God to be willing to say something to lead them in to that opportunity."

Pray for the mentors, the cluster leaders, and high school students that they can be continually surrendering themselves to the Lord in those intense times of witnessing.

Pray for Sean that he will not settle for the fruit that's happening right in front of him but that he keeps his eyes on the prize of becoming more like Christ.
