April 2015
In The Loop Newsletter

The Winter of 2014/2015, the gift that keeps on giving. So we broke the record for the greatest snowfall totals in Boston/Massachusetts since the 1800's, now it's time to Spring it On! Join us in April and May for four Spring Shawl Knit-a-longs on Saturday and Sundays, with an opportunity to meet some of the dyers and designers for these KAL's.

With Easter upon us at the end of the week and Mother's Day fast approaching, we thought we would pass along some quick gift ideas. I was able to pick up some large mugs from Pottery Barn and some cream colored bowls in the clearance section at Marshals, along with spools of ribbons, which could easily be used for a Mother's Day or "any day" gift. Fill the bowl or cup with a special skein(s) of yarn, some needles and maybe a pair of small traveling scissors or stop by your local Stop and Shop or Nursery and grab a small pot of Muscari or Mini Daffodils and transplant them into the bowl or mugs as seen in the Craft Cafe Tutorial.

However, since many of our customers will be crawling and have planned a trip here to ITL as part of their crawl, we will be supporting and celebrating right along on Friday the 17th from 10-2 and Saturday the 18th from 10-4, by offering 15% off * to Crawlers with passports in hand, along with a special gift at your time of purchase.
Make sure you check out the Fiber Artist Market Place on Sunday the 19th, from 10-4, at Mount Hope Farm in Bristol RI.

HEATHER'S HELPFUL HINTS

With all the talk of spring cleaning going on around the table in classes, I began thinking about the cleaning and purging stash. What is that skein without a label? What weight of yarn is that hank with a beautiful label and no gauge/needle information?

To figure this out, use the WPI (wraps per inch) technique. Here's how:

Wrap the yarn in question around a pencil, not too tightly. The strands of yarn should be touching not overlapping and no spaces. Next count the number of times the yarn is wrapped around the pencil in the first inch. This number will give you valuable information about the weight of your mystery yarn.

Lace                 WPI > 35
Fingering          WPI 19-22
Sport                WPI 15-18
DK                   WPI 12-14
Worsted           WPI 9-11
Bulky               WPI 7-8
Super Bulky     WPI < 6
