Astrology Club

2015 The year of the sheep/goat.
The Sheep (Goat) is a Yin energy, a symbol of Peace, Harmonious co-existence and Tranquility. The Sheep is the symbol of the Arts.

Hoping this Knit Year brings you new challenges, new knitting companions, finished projects and lots and lots of great fibers to fire your creativity.

Come create happiness and knitting joy this 2015
with all of us at In The Loop. It's the year of
sheepishly good surprises!

ARE YOU IN THE LOOP?

PUG
As many of you may know by now I am owned by four (technically this makes them a grumble) of these pudgy, snorting, always hungry, four- legged packages of unconditional love.

However,
this January, PUG has a new definition.

In The Loop announces PUG, the new acronym for our Pop-Up Gallery.
According to the Store Front's Pop-Up Shop Post by Tristan Pollock, "Pop-Up shops are taking over the retail world and rethinking traditional brick-and-mortars and big box stores...
Their primary use is to "sell products, launch new products, generate awareness and test ideas".

Let us tell you a little bit about PUG. PUG's will be popping up in the shop each month on a Saturday. PUG's will only be announced on our Facebook page the evening before, all you have to do is look for our new PUG logo. Each gallery will showcase speciality items offered in limited quantities; they could be Indie yarns, notions, accessories, gifts and whatever else catches our fancy. Since most of these items are offered to us as 'one-timers', some may sell out in 24 hours, some in 24 days but once the items are gone, we're sorry you missed out. Most will be exclusives, vendor test releases, one-of-a-kinds,
some knitting related, some craft related and some unexpected.

Will a PUG feature more than one vendor on more than one Saturday per month? Sometimes yes, but the secret is, you will never know what surprise awaits you unless you come to the shop. All of us at In The Loop have worked hard to research and coordinate with each vendor to bing you this wondrous experience of thinking outside the box.

**We will not hold nor offer any discounts on PUG items.
Thank you Dawn from Lydia and Pugs for our beautiful new illustration.

SATURDAY AFTERNOON WINTER WARM-UP KALs

What a better way to beat the winter doldrums by joining us on Saturday afternoons this January, February and March from 1:30 to 3:30.

KALs (knit-a-longs) are not instructional workshops (which is why we offer them for free) but an event where knitters gather for a common purpose, make friends and have those friends inspire you to take your knitting skills to new levels.

Since we have chosen small projects, each KAL will meet once for two hours only. We ask that you purchase your patterns on Ravelry (if required) and all your materials at In The Loop, prior to the day of the workshop.
The KALs have been rated for an individuals skill level based upon comments found on Ravelry. Remember, these KALs are non-instructional, so please choose according to your skill level.

THERE IS MORE THAN ONE WAY TO STAY                    WARM THIS WINTER

It's Christmas Eve and with highs in the 50's this week, Old Man Winter may not be knocking at our door yet, but cold and flu season is. We love having you join us each week to share your knitting experiences but we truly appreciate it when you choose not to share that nasty virus that's come to visit.
Here's to staying warm and healthy this winter.

HOT GINGER TEA from Everyday Roots

6-8 tablespoons of freshly grated ginger root
A pinch of cinnamon (optional)
A squirt of lemon juice (optional)
A dash of honey (optional)
4 cups of freshly boiled water
A glass jar (at least 1 quart)

Directions

Place the ginger in a 1 quart glass and sprinkle in some cinnamon if you are using it. Bring the water to a rolling boil, and then carefully pour it into the jar to cover the ginger. Steep for 30-40 minutes, and be sure to cover your jar-this is important because it keeps all that evaporating essential oil goodness right where it belongs-in your cup! Strain (use hot mitts or a towel as the jar may still be quite warm) and then pour yourself a piping fresh mug. You may find that you want to reheat the tea slightly. Add honey and lemon if you are using them, sip and savor, and be sure to breathe in the steam. Store the rest of the tea in the fridge for up to 24 hours.

And what to our wondering woolly eyes should appear..........

#150 Holiday Hat from Mac & Me knit with one skein of Quince & Co Puffin. Pattern available for purchase on Ravelry.

Lychee Mittens by Kate Gagnon Osborn knit with (1) Casdade Eco Duo and (1) Frog Tree Llambrosia. We increased the length of the cuff to fold over, with a chained loop anchored by a button to secure the cuff. Pattern is free on Ravelry.

Riles by Talitha Kuomi, designed specifically for Phydeaux mini's kit. Pattern is purchasable on Ravelry.  We have the February Mini's in stock and more mini's in Precious Metals, Rainbows and Neutrals will be here for the first week in January.

Stranded Cowl from Cocoknits uses (1) skein of Cascade Lana Grande and (2) skeins of Classic Elite's Tiverton Tweed.
This pattern is addicting, once you get into the rhythm it can easily be knit in a few hours. Pattern is available on Ravelry.

School Girl Socks from cabinfour, available on Ravelry, was knit with (2) skeins of Quince Chickadee. This sport weight yarn makes for a bit heavier sock, perfect for boot weather or your Danskos. Happy that there was enough leftover to cast on cabinfour's Camping.

Paloma Cabled Hat by Debbie Bliss (2) skeins of Paloma Tweed. Warm, bulky squooshy and it only took 3 hrs.
* We did convert this knit flat and sewn project to 16" circs. and knit in the round because, well, we don't like to sew things together.

HEATHER'S HELPFUL HINTS

A new year brings new projects to our needles which in some cases means we are planning to put an old project aside. Before you put a project into hibernation, remove the needles from your work and store the live stitches on waste yarn. This will save you the trouble of frogging stretched out stitches when you return to the project in a month or a year or whenever.
