January 2013

Dear (Contact First Name),

Most of you have guessed by now, December 21st has passed without incident and it's back to the daily  routines, a little older and  hopefully a little wiser. Resolutions, we  hate the thought  because with each one comes the daunting task to hold true and follow through, but let us ask each other a few things. Can 2013 be the year we "Pay It Forward"? Just one simple, random act of kindness is all it takes. Shop Small Business: It's the place where everyone knows your name. Challenge yourself: To do the best that you can; to become more aware; to simplify, to learn something new; to learn to say no; to listen; to take time for yourself; to read a good book and to knit something special just for you.
Good- bye 2012 and all those projects that will forever remain a UFO  and welcome 2013 and all the new projects that are yet to be.

Joy to the Wool and Happy N'ewe' Year To All!

A note for all class attendees: This is the time of year when a few flakes can quickly turn to a raging snowstorm. During new class sessions this week and next week, could you please make sure we have your email address.  We  don't want anyone to miss out on important class news or cancellations.
WHAT'S ON THE NEEDLES

THREE

TRICOLOR COWL by Hannah Fettig is a quick, lighter weight, cowl. You can easily wear this all day, unlike some of the chunkier cumbersome cowls. We worked this one up in three colors of Cascade 220 Sport and had plenty leftover to whip up the Semplice Fingerless Mitts by Stacey Winklepleck. What will you do with your leftovers? Solid, large stripes, small stripes. The options are endless.
semplice

cradle cardigan
CRADLE CARDIGAN by Hanna Fettig from her Mabel's Closet Collection, available in shop as a single pattern. We just love the simplicity of this top-down baby cardigan. Try it in Debbie Bliss Baby Cashmerino or we still have some colors left in Quince Chickadee.

snugs
We're calling these SNUGS. Find them free on Ravelry as Nola Miller's Nola's Slipper Pattern. Knit in Cascade Eco Plus flat and then seamed together for a weekend project. Soft, warm and snuggly, we laced ours with Suede lacing from Michaels. Note: Unless you are trying to recreate Tom Cruise's Seager scene from Risky Business, we recommend wearing these on carpeting, or in bed.

eweties
Ruth's Perfect Baby Booties were the starting point for these sheepish little EWETIES. We used  one skein of Rowan Pure Wool DK, one skein of Joseph Galler  Belangor and a just a small piece of black for some embroidery. By changing out the top color you can easily make these for a little boy or girl. All of the modifications are available at the shop with yarn purchase.

chaser
CHASER is an In The Loop Original, knit with (1) skein of Misti Alpaca Chunky Multi and the tassel is pinned to the inside, easily removeable when it's not a tassel kind of day, or time for a cleaning.

foot loops

Foot Loops Club 2012 was such a hit that it will be back for 2013 with four new Indy Dyers ready to knock your socks off!

Beginning January 7th, registration will open for Foot Loops 2013. Starting in April through October, every other month, you will receive one skein of sock/fingering weight yarn, two patterns chosen especially for that yarn (not every one made socks) and a special Foot Loops Club Project Bag with your first month's pick up.  As with the 2012 Club, the yarns will come from Indy Dyers, not yet available in the shop and will be dyed especially for that month.  One of this year's Club participants exclaimed, " It is just like Christmas and your Birthday in one. You are totally surprised!"

Registrations will be accepted no later than January 31st and payments received no later than February 4th. Sorry we cannot accept new members once the registration is closed.

HEATHER'S HELPFUL HINTS

Does my cast on count when counting rows?
That depends on how you cast on.....if backward loop - no,
if long tail - yes, if knit/cable cast on - you must decide based on the right and wrong side of your work. In this case, both answers can be right, so pick one and then be consistent with your choice.

Happy Knitting in the New Year!
Heather

As they say, "out with the old  and in with the new". Yes, it is a new year before us, sure to be filled with joy, sorrow, good memories and bad, finished projects checked off the list, projects that will land in the UFO pile, new skills to be learned, bad habits to be broken. However you look at the project, half -started, or half -finished, from our family to yours, Happy New Knit Year!

Sincerely,

In The Loop
