       Conventional wisdom tells us that we should explore our weaknesses and work hard to correct them.  Hogwash!  You will be far more successful if you concentrate instead on your strengths.  This tactic is known as re-framing, turning a challenge into a benefit.

       Spend the time exploring and identifying your strengths and then work diligently to make them even stronger.  Match your strengths to your core values to give them extra punch. Wasting your time on trying to fix your weaknesses would probably prove fruitless; most will just melt away when you replace them with good things. Think of a box filled equally with both strengths and weaknesses.  If you add more strengths to the box you will automatically push out some of the weaknesses until there is nothing left in the box except good things.

       If you do isolate a weakness that has an impact on your professional life or your behavior then take the time to try to convert it to a strength; look at it from different angles to discover the strength hidden within.  For example: if you are crippled by public speaking join Toastmasters; challenge your fears. If your challenges are really important there will be an easy solution to turn them into a strength, if not then no amount of energy will change them.

        This is the year of the positive, it affords you the opportunity to build and supplement your strengths and push your weaknesses right out of the box.
