Take Control of Your Time

       Take control of your time.  Tom Hopkins taught me to list the five most important things I have to do tomorrow before I end each day.  Of course, things do change, but this will give you a good framework to guide your day.

       Don't rush to check your mails constantly; and turn off the alerts on your phone.  Set three times per day to check your mail; maybe around nine am for last night's communications, again at two o'clock for midday messages that require today's action, and at the end of your work day. Late in the day calls for action can be added to your top five list. Let your customers and friends know that this is your new policy.  If a message is really important they can call you for your answer.  

       One of the biggest time wasters of your day is the internet.  Unless you are acting on a particular project just don't go there.  We are all aware of the time that can be wasted following links that aren't relevant to your current activities; save your recreational browsing for a later time when you don't have more pressing challenges.  The same goes for games, play Words with Friend in your free time, not when you have other priorities. This also applies to other distractions, like Facbeook and Twitter.

       By putting distractions in their proper places you will become both more productive and more stress-free at the same time.  The internet is a very powerful tool and when used properly can be a fantastic resource.  The goal is to control it, don't let it control you.

or Healthcare organization. Completely examine your "Patient Rights"! They exist in your coverage publications!! 
       I was told , "It's too late, you should get your affairs in order!" , by more than one. My patient's rights stated I had the right to see  

any physician in their system. I found a physician with the will to continue fighting. The doctor who basically told me I was going to die, still resisted my searching further for help. He stated he had consulted with several others whom all concurred with his prognosis. He told me in his opinion the doctor I wanted to see was "dogmatic". My rights: I told him, I was asking him for a referral to this physician (SOP). I hadn't asked him to consult or divulge my medical record to anyone else, and I certainly wasn't asking his opinion of any one!

       My point is, I read my patients rights. His "opinion" no matter 

how educated, to me was unacceptable. Physicians no matter how capable can be wrong and often are. Be proactive with your health care. And the final point, I AM ALIVE!
