Can Customers Find You?
Does your business have its own Facebook page? How about listings on Yelp, Bing, Google, or Linkedin, in the yellow pages and with your local Chamber of Commerce?
All of these are places where your potential clients are
looking for you. In today's digital age more and more people
rely on their computers and smartphones to look for products or vendors. If you aren't listed they won't be able to find you, or do business with you.
It is not difficult or time consuming, to set up these connections. The first step is to create a very complete profile; this will be the master that you work from. Each resource has its own format, but they all ask for similar information so cutting and pasting from your master makes your job easy. Being consistent with your information is important for your SEO so using a master and tailoring it to each use is critical. Your profile should include not only your name and contact information, with cross links to your other pages, but also don't forget education and accomplishments both at work and in real life. Viewers want to get to know you so be sure to include some human interest, like hobbies or pastimes
The two most essential aspects of your profile are consistency and key words; this is how you get found. These are both major contributing factors in your Google ranking, how near the top you appear if someone is looking for your goods or services; the nearer the top you are the better chance you have of being found.
Consistency means that no matter where someone looks for you they should be getting the same message about how you can solve their problems. This is why using a master profile helps you brand yourself or your business so you can be easily identified.
Key words are the search terms searchers will use to find you. Think of the words or phrases that you would use to find yourself; ask your current customers what search words they would use. Customize your key words to not only reflect your product, but also your mission, and especially the reasons people should choose your business.
I can't stress strongly enough how important it is to have a complete and comprehensive profile, and to have it posted in as many places as possible. Your bottom line will definitely reflect your efforts.
