Spring Cleaning - Office Edition
Spring cleaning is not just for your house. Spring is also a good time to clean out your office and assess what is good, or bad, about your business.
There are a number of areas that deserve your attention during your spring cleaning. The first might by your marketing. Are you really getting the responses that you want? This would be a good time to bring in a consultant with an unbiased view to help you evaluate what is working and what isn't.
This is also a good time to check out your facility. If you are operating a store front are your windows clean? Your displays inviting? In a factory situation be sure that work areas are free of clutter and that all of your machinery is situated in the right spaces for efficiency.
Your systems also need checking. These may include pay-
ables and receivables, shipping, employee education, or any number of other systems that keep you running effectively.
Laws are changed irregularly so now is also a good time to assess your employee handbook. Operating without a current and comprehensive guide could cost you a lot of money in penalties and fines. You may also want to review your benefit package and refresh it as necessary.
Speaking of fines it is critical that you confirm that all of your tax payments have been paid on time. Federal, State, and local fines and penalties can be crippling.
Of course, these tasks should not be limited to Spring Cleaning. All of them should be reviewed at least twice a year. Calling it Spring Cleaning is just a good reminder not to pass up these chores, they are critical to continued successful operation of your business.
