Musings - Annual Analysis

2013 is coming to an end.  

We hope it has been very successful for you.

       You have one more task to complete before the new year begins; assessing and analyzing what went right this year and what needs  improving. Remember that none of your plans or goals are cast in stone, they are merely guidelines for action, and need annual updates.

    There are basically four areas that need investigation: your strengths, your weaknesses, your opportunities and any threats.

• YOUR STRENGTHS will show you where you succeeded, and what tools you have that you didn't use.  The analysis will tell you what you do best.
• YOUR WEAKNESSES will show you where you had problems, and where changes are required.
• THREATS can come from any direction, competition, new technology, change in fads.  It is imperative that you challenge each one to turn it from a weakness into a strength.
• OPPORTUNITIES reflect all the all of the challenges you found to be threats.  Each correction can exhibit new chances and a lesson in how to move forward.

       It is very important that you consider this analysis with eyes wide open.  Looking through a tunnel or listening to peers can lead you in the wrong direction unless they are thoroughly vetted. The success of your business depends on your moving forward, or even ahead of, the competition.  Your annual assessment will be invaluable in showing you the right way.

Clean Out Time

       It is that time of year again.  While getting ready for your holiday baking, candy making, and other gift creating it is a good time to

clean out your kitchen cabinets and pantry.  We all have things we bought for a special purpose that never got used

       During the year we buy a couple of extra cans or boxes of food each week and put them away.  We only add a dollar or two to our grocery budget, but that small expenditure can make a big difference to someone who is food compromised.

       Pack up these extras and all of the unused food you have gathered and take them to your local food bank or homeless shelter; churches often have food collections at this time of  year, too.

       The benefits are three fold; you are helping to feed the hungry, your cupboards are getting cleaned out, and the spirit of giving and sharing wonderful positive thing you can do for your community.
