Something to think about.

"Fear of failure and fear of the unknown are always defeated by faith. Having faith in yourself, in the process of change, and in the new direction that change sets will reveal your own inner core of steel."

Being Self Directed

It takes skill and training to be a self-starter; getting started is often the biggest challenge of your day.  If you hold a job outside you do have the advantage of having your life ordered for you; you know what the boss needs or expects so you can move forward without much thought.

For the rest of you who work at home, or manage groups that you have to lead, working on and with purpose can be difficult. You have to be very aware of your responsibilities and talents in order to lead effectively. You also have to be aware of the abilities of your teammates so you can give practical and productive assignments.

The ability to be "self-directed" is learned, we aren't born with it.  The best place to start is with a prioritized list; lists are the road maps of our day.  Your list can be in chronological order, or level of urgency, it doesn't matter.  The most important thing is that you have a guide so nothing can fall thru the cracks.  Being self-directed yourself will illustrate to your team members how to be an efficient leader and how to tackle their own projects, making you all more productive.

Working with a purpose also means that you have to be proactive, have vision, and have a "can do" attitude.  Start by reminding yourself that nothing is impossible, then go for it.  You will either have a huge success or you will learn what doesn’t work; either way you win and have more tools to use as you move forward.

Your Money - Your Life

Future Value:

Have you considered the future value of your money?  The future value is what your money will be worth in the future if you leave it alone and let the interest compound.  In today's shaky economy, many people have been taking loans from their 401k accounts or liquidating other dedicated accounts to help them maintain their life styles.

Before you dip into these funds that you are saving for the future you should consider what that same money will be worth in the future; if you leave it for five or ten years or more.  You will probably find that it is more prudent to alter your lifestyle, cut back a little here and there, before you take out the money.

A $10,000 investment held for ten years at just 2% will add over $1200 to your investment.  The beauty of compound interest is that not only will you earn interest on the investment, but you will also earn interest on the interest.  If you cash out your investment early, you not only lose the investment, but you also lose the interest on interest that it would be earning.

Time equals money. The longer you can hold on to an investment, the more it will be worth to you in the future.  Be wise and do the calculations before you tamper with your nest egg.

Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world; indeed, it is the only thing that ever has.
