When boiling eggs to have hard boiled eggs on hand put a teabag in the water.  It will tint the eggs just enough to make them appear different than your raw ones.

Building with Social Media

They say "you can't teach an old dog new tricks", but look at me. It's taken a while to get on board the blogosphere and we are still learning, but we are moving forward. I consider social media another tool to help you grow your business by my sharing ideas and concepts. "Did you know that 62% of the world's population uses social networking, making it the most popular online activity. Has your business claimed its space?"*

Facebook has proven to be an amazing tool.  It is not just for finding and connecting with old friends and family; a lot of business is getting done. There are over one billion people now using it; some of them are your future customers.

One local eatery in my community promoted his business on Facebook for three months before he opened.  We all cheered and booed as he did, or didn't, get the permits he needed.  Delay megaphone s were lamented, successes cheered.  By the time he opened he had a huge following and has been growing ever since. This is a terrific example of using social media to grow a business.

Writing a blog (web journal) is another very powerful tool to use to promote your success.  Writing on interesting subjects, rela handwriting ted to your field of expertise, lead readers into knowing you.  Consumers like to do business with the people they know, and trust.  Delivering useful information is a good way to create that trust.

Check out my website, othercreations.com if you need help figuring out how social media and blogging can make money for you, and for more helpful hints.

Your Money - Your Life

December Bargains

Many of us are so busy Christmas gift shopping that we miss some great saving opportunities to save this time of year at the grocery store.  After the holidays, discounts of 25 to 50% are easy to find in your local store and many of them are freezable or store well so it is worth stocking up.

For your freezer: stock up on butter at close to 50% savings.  The sales may reappear again at Easter time so a six- month's supply is not unreasonable.  The same goes for frozen vegetables, a three-month's supply is good, and bacon is another big savings opportunity that freezes well.

For your pantry stock up on sugar, cake mixes and canned goods.  Anything used for holiday cooking will go on sale as grocers try to reduce their inventories after the holidays.

Another thing that you can always use, and it doesn't age, is paper goods and storage supplies.  Wax paper, foil and parchment paper all may be marked down 50%.  Consider too, holiday themed reusable containers.  Containers and wraps that feature a holiday theme may be marked down as much as 75% right after the holidays.

These savings, and other seasonal items can make a big difference in your grocery budget for many months to come. Take advantage of them and be a smart shopper.
