This Week at Prince of Peace...

Eighteenth Sunday After Pentecost                      September 18, 2016

This Sunday's Readings
Amos 8:4-7; Psalm 113; 1 Timothy 2:1-7

GOSPEL:  Luke 16:1-13
Then Jesus said to the disciples, "There was a rich man who had a manager, and charges were brought to him that this man was squandering his property. So he summoned him and said to him, 'What is this that I hear about you? Give me an accounting of your management, because you cannot be my manager any longer.' Then the manager said to himself, 'What will I do, now that my master is taking the position away from me? I am not strong enough to dig, and I am ashamed to beg. I have decided what to do so that, when I am dismissed as manager, people may welcome me into their homes.' So, summoning his master's debtors one by one, he asked the first, 'How much do you owe my master?' He answered, 'A hundred jugs of olive oil.' He said to him, 'Take your bill, sit down quickly, and make it fifty.' Then he asked another, 'And how much do you owe?' He replied, 'A hundred containers of wheat.' He said to him, 'Take your bill and make it eighty.' And his master commended the dishonest manager because he had acted shrewdly; for the children of this age are more shrewd in dealing with their own generation than are the children of light. And I tell you, make friends for yourselves by means of dishonest wealth so that when it is gone, they may welcome you into the eternal homes.
Whoever is faithful in a very little is faithful also in much; and whoever is dishonest in a very little is dishonest also in much. If then you have not been faithful with the dishonest wealth, who will entrust to you the true riches? And if you have not been faithful with what belongs to another, who will give you what is your own? No slave can serve two masters; for a slave will either hate the one and love the other, or be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve God and wealth."

Our Fall Worship Schedule has resumed! Join us for:
Saturday Worship at 5 pm
Sunday Worship at 8:30 & 11:00 am
Sunday School at 9:45 am

Join us for Sunday School each week at 9:45 am! For younger students we continue to use a rotational model which provides an experiential approach similar to VBS. For Middle and High School students, we use cool and quirky workbooks and short films to explore relevant topics. There is also an adult study. You and your kids won't want to miss it!! Click here for more details about our Sunday School programs (described below).

Kids! Want to praise the Lord in song and have fun learning some great music? Then join the PoP Hand Bell Choir! The Hand Bell Choir is for children age 7 and older; and we are looking for new members!! Rehearsals are on Thursdays from 6:30-7:15pm. Sign up in the narthex or contact Danielle Drobny for more info.

Volunteers Needed for our Worship Services! Please help by serving as usher, greeter and/or snack helper. Signup in the narthex or online; or contact the Office. You will be scheduled approximately once every two months (with the ability to reschedule). Thank you for contributing your time and talents!

The Serving in Worship schedule for September & October has been posted on our website and the bulletin board in the narthex. Please review it and make arrangements for any conflicts. Thanks!

The September Glad Tidings is available on our website!

Men's Group meets on Saturday mornings at 8:00 am in the Fellowship Hall. Join us for coffee and discussion of the upcoming Bible texts. All men are welcome!

The Men's Book Club will meet on Thursday, September 15 at 7:30 pm at the home of Steve Von Wald to discuss Unbroken: A World War II Story of Survival, Resilience, and Redemption by Laura Hillenbrand. All men of POP and their male friends are invited for beer, munchies, and good fellowship. Please RSVP to Steve.

Sign up for Tables for All by Sunday, September 18! This is a fun adult fellowship program in which potluck meals are shared with other members of PoP. The meals are hosted at the homes of church members; guests provide some of the food. The 2016-17 series will consist of three rounds: Oct-Nov, Jan-Feb, and March-May. The exact dates and times are determined by mutual agreement of the host and guests. The usual host and guest list includes eight people. This program is just for adults, but we can help identify potential babysitters. After you sign up, you'll be provided with a schedule letting you know when you are hosting and/or attending. The food assignment is also specified: main dish (host), side dish, salad and bread, or dessert. Tables for All is a wonderful way to meet others at Prince of Peace and to reconnect with old friends. Sign up in the narthex or email Lisa Woodard by Sunday, September 18.

The October Glad Tidings deadline is Sunday, September 18. Submit your articles, photos, etc. to Martha Rogers.

Sunday School This Fall
SS
Rally Day kicks off our new season of Sunday School on September 11th at 9:45 am. Preschool through elementary-age kids and their families meet in the sanctuary for Opening as they register for Sunday School. Older students bypass the sanctuary and start right off in their classrooms in the Besecker Youth Center (BYC). Sunday School meets weekly from 9:45-10:45 am.

Preschool - Elementary School
Each week, Preschool through Elementary students meet for fellowship and singing in the sanctuary at 9:45 am before heading to their classrooms at 10. Preschool/Kindergarten has several in-class workshops each week, including Bible story time, craft, and snack. Elementary-age groups participate in one workshop each week, such as art, cooking, and games. We use the Spark Rotation Sunday School curriculum and usually spend three weeks on a Bible story, exploring from multiple perspectives.

Middle School
Using the Sparkhouse Connect curriculum, Middle Schoolers take a journey through the Bible. Each week, we explore the connections between several Bible passages and relate biblical themes to their own lives. Fun videos and activities get the conversation going!

High School
"Unlikely people called by God to do amazing things." This describes the Old Testament ancestors of our faith whom high schoolers will explore using the youth Bible study, Sparkhouse re:form Ancestors. Using cool and quirky workbooks and short films, we'll discover similarities between ourselves and the many unlikely people chosen by God to do the extraordinary.

Contact Sunday School Superintendent, Janet Levine, with any questions or comments.
See you on Rally Day!
