- You get paid a stipend to host that helps offset their living expenses...... anywhere between $700-$900 a month depending on the agency

Nurse's Update
I sure hope that everyone has had a wonderful summer. It started out wet but we definitely have had some gorgeous days thrown in there for our enjoyment. Hard to believe that we are already looking at going back to school!
For those athletes out there....Mrs. Moody (in the main office) has the "Sports Permission Forms" that MUST be filled out prior to your first practice. These forms require a current physical done at your MD (within the last year on file in my office) as well as a signature by both the student athlete and their parent. This signature assures us that you have read and understand the importance of concussion issues that can arise with sports.
Once these forms are completed, you MUST see the nurse (Mrs. Wilson, RN) and obtain a "clearance card". That card needs to be turned into the supervising coach or to Coach Marchand. NOBODY will be allowed to practice until this has been completed.
Since sports are beginning the week of August 17th, 2015 I will be available for 2 days before that week and then again during that week. I will definitively be in my office on Weds and Thursday August 12-13 from 0800-12noon. I will also be there all day on both Monday and Tuesday the 17-18 from 0800-2pm. Other available times during those 2 weeks will be dependent on need/response to availability listed. Please pray with me as the sports season begins that there will be no serious injuries.
As a reminder, those children going into the following grades: K, 2, 4, 7, 10 need a new physical completed and given to the nurse. I hope that you have taken the opportunity of the summer to complete these and are just waiting for me to get there to hand them in. Also, rising 6th graders must obtain a TDAP vaccine and the proof of this vaccine must be given to me as well. If you have any questions, I will be happy to answer them. You can leave a message on my VM at 387-3770, ext. 230 or email me at swilson@finneyschool.org
Starting the week of August 24th, I will be in my office most days, Mon-Th. We are excited to see everyone starting Weds. Sept 2!
Enjoy the rest of your "lazy days of summer". Rest up and stay healthy.
I will again be offering COLD bottled water out of my office for .25 cents in the fall this in an effort to help keep our students hydrated!
Mrs. Sue Wilson, R.N.

From the President
Dear Parents,
Without a doubt this has been the busiest summer in the seven summers I have been at The Charles Finney School! There are exciting new changes to the campus that you will see upon your return. I will begin to post on our Instagram (#finneylife) account soon but here is some of what you will see:
- Back entrance renovation: This will begin soon. You will not recognize it when it is done
- Paving of the entire parking lot
- Music room renovation; an all new look
- New drinking fountains, with a special water bottle filling station in the lower/locker room hallway
- Expanded computer lab in the library with new computers, chairs, and tables
- Several other surprises you will see as well
The news gets even better! A very generous donor told me this week that their family will be purchasing all new lockers for the high school! I continue to stand in amazement when I think of how God has met each and every need we put before him. None of these projects would be possible without the generosity of people who care deeply for our Finney community and are obedient to His prompting. I know I speak for them when I say that they hope one day you are blessed in a way that will allow you to do the same for others.
Along with all of the facility work being done the work on accreditation continues as we put the final touches on the self-study report that will be shared with our community in the fall.
You will also see some new faces on campus this year as well. We have hired Mrs. Susan Sullivan as Director of Development. Mr. Steve Miller will join us in as the new school Guidance Counselor. Please pray for Mr. and Mrs.Andrew Palmer (past Guidance Counselor) as they begin a new journey in China this month. Mrs. Ake's (past 4th grade teacher) husband was offered a position in Maryland for the upcoming school year. We hired in her place Mrs. Heidi Wheeler. We have also expanded our English department and would like to welcome Mrs. Stacy Cougle who will be teaching eleventh and twelfth grade English. She will join Mrs. Lydon and Mrs. Perez in the English Department. A familiar face around Finney is Mr. Andy Marchand. Mr. Marchand has been a substitute gym teacher in the past. Starting this fall, he will be teaching K-12 gym classes while Coach Joe Marchand focuses on his duties as Athletic Director of The Cbarles Finney School. Look for more information on these individuals soon on our website employee profiles.
Please take time before school starts to pray for the new school year. All of these new "things" mean nothing if we do not have Christ as the center of all we do here at Finney. Pray that the Lord will touch the lives of each and every student in a deeper way than ever before as His word is shared through both teaching and example of all who enter this school.
Enjoy what is left of summer!
In His Service,
Mr. Michael VanLeeuwen
President

 | From the High School Principal |
I trust you are all enjoying your summer and staying cool! I can't believe it is half over! There are always things happening in the high school: cleaning, construction, preparing classrooms, and more computers!
~New for 2015-16~ Mr. Steven Miller will be joining us in the position of School Counselor! He comes to us with almost two decades of experience as an accomplished counselor and holds a Master of Arts in Counseling. Please be sure that you seek him out and give him a warm Finney welcome!
I am thrilled to announce that we have also hired another full-time high school English teacher, Mrs. Stacy Cougle. Please welcome each of our new faculty members and get to know them this school year.
Mr. Andy Marchand will be teaching HS gym classes (as well as K-8. He is a familiar face as a Finney alumnus and regular substitute teacher. Welcome to all our new faculty members.
We have approximately 20 new students in the high school. I am looking forward to getting to know the students and their families. We are so blessed they have joined the Finney family!
Last year I created and facilitated a mini workshop for 9th through 11th grade called Study Skills and Test Taking Strategies. Mrs. Lydon graciously agreed to let me push into her English classes. Our hope was to start the students off with some great tools to set good habits that will carry them through the year and their high school career. We received positive feedback from students, and future conversations circled back to their learning. This year, all freshman will be taking a 10 week course called Freshman Seminar. This mini-course will cover study skills, learning styles, note taking skills/strategies, active listening, test taking strategies, organization skills, time management, self-advocacy/conversation, using flash drives, and much more!
Upcoming Dates: 8/17/15 Fall Sports Begin 8/27/15 Genesis Day 9/2/15 K-12 First Day of School!
Galations 6:9 "Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up."
Blessings for a great summer vacation!

| From the Director of Development | Greetings from your newest comrade at The Charles Finney School! It is my professional privilege and personal blessing to join the staff as Director of Development and to shepherd and champion Sheila's successes and our initiatives for the future. While I take the first few weeks getting my feet wet, I look forward to immersing myself in all things Finney: meeting students, families, faculty, staff, Board members, donors and friends; watching young lives transformed in Christ's plan; contributing to our learning community; cheering for the Falcons! As we plan together ways to grow God's kingdom through our work at Finney, I pray for His guidance in meeting (surpassing!) our fundraising goals to support the exciting opportunities that await our students. Above all, I am blessed by this new opportunity to Do Something Greater. "Rejoice always, pray continually, give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God's will for you in Christ Jesus" (1Thessalonians 5:16-18). Please stop by and say "hi!" Yours in service, Mrs. Susan Sullivan Director of Development |

On Thursday, Aug. 27th from 4:30 - 6:00pm Finney will welcome all new and returning students and their families -- as everyone prepares to begin a new school year. Please join us for a complimentary family picnic with lawn games, a bounce house, a jousting pit, and great fellowship. The PTO needs volunteers to grill and serve food, supervise bounce houses and assist with set-up and clean-up. CLICK HERE to volunteer today and have a great time!
Get Ready, Set ... Falcon Spirit Run!
Mark your calendars for Tuesday Sept. 22, when we will show our school spirit during this annual all-school fundraiser. It will take place during the school day (this is our Spirit Week culminating with Homecoming on Sept. 26). Students from all grades will raise funds for Finney through sponsorship of per-lap pledges and one-time donations. Students and teachers will run or walk laps around the back parking lot for 30 minutes and can earn prizes. Everyone will have a great time!
This event is organized and facilitated by the Finney PTO. Information/sponsorship packets will go home with students on the second day of school, Sept. 3rd. This will give students 2 ½ weeks to contact sponsors.
We need many hands to help with tracking laps, setting up and serving snacks, and clean-up. CLICK HERE to volunteer or go to the PTO webpage on the school website.

Please register your REDcard online. Finney will get a percentage back. Use Finney School ID: 22758
SCHOOLMALL.COM
The holidays are fast approaching. While you are shopping on-line, please remember Finney's fundraising program called "School Mall". The ONLY thing you need to do is go to www.schoolmall.com and enter our school name in the box before ordering from your favorite on-line store. This fundraiser is easy and has great potential to help the school financially. Some of the vendors include familiar stores:Kohl's, WalMart, Target, iTunes, Best Buy, Sears, Netflix, Barnes & Noble, Old Navy. We earned about $500 dollars last year with no additional effort by our already busy volunteers. We could raise $1,000's of dollars with a little effort on everyone's part. Thanks for your help! **When you order your FINNEY UNIFORM pieces from Land's End we receive a portion of that purchase price as well! (You must purchase it THROUGH/VIA School Mall). |
