Nurse's Update
Spring is right around the corner (that is what the calendar says!). However, our spring sports are all gearing up to get outside and start practicing. If you have an athlete that is planning on playing in any spring sport, please be aware that NOW is the time for the sports permission forms to be completed. Please complete them, sign them, have your student sign them and then bring to my office. I will then issue them a "qualifying" card. This card is to be given to coach (Coach Marchand) before your child will be allowed to even practice. In order to be issued a qualifying card, the athlete MUST have an active physical on file in the nurse's office (completed within the last 12 months). If you have any questions regarding this, please do not hesitate to give me a call at 387-3770, ext. 230.
Below you will find an introduction to one of the many Brockport Nursing students who have spent time with me here in the nurses office. They have been here to observe, learn and help participate in a variety of aspects of school health at the Charles Finney School.

Hello Finney families! My name is Jennifer Bauch and I am a nursing student from SUNY Brockport with plans to graduate in May 2015. This February, I have been working with Mrs. Wilson in supporting the health and safety of your children. I had the chance to teach dental health to the kindergarten class before break, which was a joy! Thank you for allowing me this learning opportunity at Finney. I have truly enjoyed caring for the students here. Mrs. Sue Wilson, R.N. |
Please join other Finney parents when we meet on Thursday mornings from 8:00 to 9:30am as we pray for our school, administration, faculty, staff and Finney families. Come whenever you are able. You can also join our email group to receive prayer requests to pray at home. Contact Kathy Smith at kathys0925@frontiernet.net or

From the President
Dear Finney Family,
What a brutal February it has been for our weather here in Rochester! We are all looking forward to the warmer days that will come. As much as I look forward to warmer days ahead, I also look forward with great anticipation to what is going to happen around the Charles Finney School in the near future. We are in the process of forming a capital campaign committee to help guide the process of the school's first ever capital campaign. This campaign will set the course for the school that will benefit our students for years to come. There are no shortages of projects that could be done. Please pray for all us involved as we prioritize the projects on our ever growing list.
This is an exciting school to be a part of and we hope that as we enter into the new enrollment season you will help spread the word about our school. Thanks for being a part of it all and stayed tuned for more exciting news coming your way in the months to come.
As an example of a new and exciting change here at Finney, check out the new and refreshed look of our website at www.finneyschool.org.
Mr. Michael VanLeeuwen

 | From the High School Principal |
March is here and certainly seems to be coming in like a lion! Record cold temperatures. I don't know about you, but I am so thankful for space heaters and tea!
The time has come to re-enroll your high school student at Finney for the next school year. It is extremely important that we have accurate numbers of returning students so we can plan course offerings. This process can now be done completely online!
Course scheduling for the 2015-16 school year will begin end of March, early April. (You will receive an email soon with directions and a link.) We have many popular electives that fill up fast, and don't forget about our Dual (College) Credit options! Students who are re-enrolled get scheduling preference. A schedule will not be created if a student has not re-enrolled, so complete your enrollment today! The SAT Prep Class started at the beginning of Quarter 3. Two of our teachers are sharing that responsibility: Mrs. Perez and Miss Kirby. If you haven't gone online to sign up for the SAT test (www.collegeboard.com), I encourage you to do so. Test locations fill up fast! Families of seniors, please remember to let Student Services know when your child receives college acceptance and scholarship information. We try hard to track this information in order to update our school profile. Thank you for your continued prayers and support of our students and staff here at Finney!
Galations 6:9 "Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up."
Upcoming Dates: *3/5 Open House (K-12) *3/13 No School - Professional Development Day for faculty *3/20 Weekend of Musical Production: The Sound of Music *3/27 Quarter 3 ends *3/30 School Closed for Easter/Spring Break (school re-opens on Monday 4/6)

Wow! Can you believe that spring break is quickly approaching? Hopefully, our spring weather comes soon. It is great to see the longer daylight hours that this time of the year brings to us. *Don't forget to SPRING AHEAD next week, Sunday, March 8th!
I want to remind everyone to continue working hard to monitor student work. RenWeb is an excellent source for parents to check grades. Teachers update grades regularly so that parents and students can always know grades or incomplete assignments.
February's coffee with me was great. Thank you for those who attended. We discussed some future ideas for Finney. We also got into a great discussion about our writing curriculum. Mark your calendars! The next meeting will be on April 8th.
I am so excited about all the information I received at the ACSI conference I attend in Lancaster, PA. The speakers gave me some great ideas that I would like to implement at Finney. It was a rewarding experience for me. Please continue to pray for our school so that Finney will continue to excel in our community.
We have recently had a few students from China visit our Middle and Elementary classes. We have enrolled a student from Korea who is in 6th grade. Our Finney students are doing a great job helping her to get around and feel welcomed.
Upcoming Events:
March 5 Open House K-12
March 9 Spring Sports Begin
March 13 School Closed for students
March 27 Quarter 3 Ends
March 20-22 Musical production
March 30-3 Spring Break

 | Development Office Update |
Thank you to all the parents who have made their gift to the Annual Fund, attended the January Parent Coffee and Praise and Worship Celebration. Your support, feedback and prayers are critically important to being the leader in K-12 Christian education distinguished by excellence in program quality and student success.
We all know that exciting news travels quickly so by now you may have heard that an anonymous donor has made an unprecedented gift of $300,000 to The Charles Finney School. In the coming weeks and months you will learn more about the capital improvement plan, the fundraising campaign, and how you can get involved. This is a very exciting time in the history of The Charles Finney School. We give all the honor and glory to God for this gift of historic magnitude.
Because of our focus on leveraging additional support to renovate the school's campus, the Spring Auction, scheduled for Friday, April 17, is on hold. We are in the midst of exploring other possible fundraising and community building events. More will follow about this as the year progresses.
Spring is when the United Way will begin its annual campaign. If your employer participates in the United Way of Greater Rochester Campaign, consider designating your gift to Finney. Use the United Way Designation Form and indicate Charles Finney Corporate High School donor designation number 2564.
We are still $100,000 from meeting this year's Annual Fund goal. We need the support of our entire community. Prayerfully consider how the Lord would like you to support the needs of The Charles Finney School and then take a step in faith. God always honors the work of the faithful!
Thank you for your support of The CharlesSchool. We value your commitment to Christian education!
Serving in Christ,
Mrs. Sheila Roman
Vice President for Institutional Advancement

The event is free, but we will be stopping for lunch on our way back at the student's expense. Also looking ahead, On April 30, we will be offering the juniors and seniors a chance to go to Careers in Sports Day at Frontier Field. There is a charge for this event, as it includes seats to a Red Wings game. Lunch is not included, but there will be many food vendors available. Seating is limited to students with direct career interest in this area. More information will be coming soon. Our Freshman Information Night will be, Thursday, April 23rd from 6:00-7:00 pm. WITH GRATITUDE!
The elementary school families really stepped up to create an extraordinary Faculty/Staff Valentine's Luncheon celebration! Our faculty and staff felt loved and appreciated and for that we are grateful.
© Thank you to Sue Ball who put her heart and soul into coordinating volunteers and donations; Tara McDonald and our parent reps who got the word out; Jen Tinnes for being our shopping queen, and everyone involved for being flexible about the possibility of school closing that day!
© And our gratitude also extends to our volunteers for set-up, serving and clean-up - Jen Clouthier, Megan Pasquantonio, Jen Tinnes, Val Zombeck ... and Kathy Smith who stopped in to help!
© And thank you to each family who donated food, supplies and money to help make this luncheon a success - The families Anger, Ball, Blue, Cain, Campbell, Clouthier, Custodio, Fantauzzo, Felton, Harris, Hernandez, Kovacsiss, Lewin, Martinez, Pasquantonio, Agnew-Relyea, Rickard, Ryder, Smith, Tinnes, Tornow, Videtti, Viencek, Wynn, Zombeck, and any other family we may have inadvertently omitted. Whew!
It takes a village to raise a child and it takes a school to put on an appreciation event. We couldn't have done it without you. Really!
From the PTO: Coming Soon: "Day of Caring" Please look for emails from your parent reps, stay tuned for details and save the date : Friday May 1, 2015

Please register your REDcard online. Finney will get a percentage back. Use Finney School ID: 22758
SCHOOLMALL.COM
The holidays are fast approaching. While you are shopping on-line, please remember Finney's fundraising program called "School Mall". The ONLY thing you need to do is go to www.schoolmall.com and enter our school name in the box before ordering from your favorite on-line store. This fundraiser is easy and has great potential to help the school financially. Some of the vendors include familiar stores:Kohl's, WalMart, Target, iTunes, Best Buy, Sears, Netflix, Barnes & Noble, Old Navy. We earned about $500 dollars last year with no additional effort by our already busy volunteers. We could raise $1,000's of dollars with a little effort on everyone's part. Thanks for your help! |
 | Project Compassion 500th Act
| While I was watching The Ultimate Life at Crossroads Community Church, the Burch family's church. It did not take long for me to be captivated by Mark McKenzie's musical score for the film. My imagination swiftly went to a film I am presently producing for Project Compassion. The film is titled NO LIMITS and will premier May 15th at COMPASSION2015 at The Charles Finney School. I was confident that McKenizie's score was a perfect match for the film. So, I sent him an email asking for his permission to use the score in our film. Frankly, I was not optimistic that such an accomplished musician would grace us with his artistry. Act #500: Composer Mark McKenzie is allowing Project Compassion to use his soundtrack from The Ultimate Life in our next film project. Mr. McKenzie has composed the soundtrack for 19 motion pictures. He has also assisted John Barry, Bruce Broughton, Danny Elfman, Mark Isham, Michael Jackson, Paul McCartney, John Powell, Marc Shaiman, Alan Silvestri, John Williams and Jerry Goldsmith with orchestrations. Source: markmckenzie.org/bio What a great act of compassion from Mr. McKenzie to Project Compassion!! |
