STUDENTS RELEASED FOR EARLY DISMISSAL MUST BE PICKED UP AND SIGNED OUT AT THE MAIN OFFICE - THEY MUST BRING A NOTE IN TO THE MAIN OFFICE IN THE MORNING AND GIVE IT TO MRS. MOODY - SHE WILL THEN GIVE THEM A PASS TO BE RELEASED FROM CLASS AT THE TIME OF THEIR EARLY DEPARTURE

DRIVE TO THE BACK OF THE SCHOOL - WAIT FOR BUSES TO LEAVE FIRST THEN PROCEED - FOLLOWING THE DIRECTIONS OF THE TEACHERS

IF IT IS PAST 2:50PM AND YOU ARE PARKED IN THE FRONT LOT - YOU MUST WAIT FOR THE BUSES TO BE RELEASED FIRST

Thank you for following these rules and keeping everyone safe. Thank you.

Prayers and Praises

To all the Finney Family: Let's join together in prayer for our school community. Pray for the Faculty and Staff to be strengthened and encouraged, as they work so hard.  Pray for our Finney families, especially those traveling during the Christmas break.  For the health and safety of all of our students.  That our students will continually seek the Lord and follow the path He has for each one of them.
Praise for the love that God has for us. He sent His Son to earth to save us!
Nurse's Update

sue wilson

Hard to believe that it is December already!  Hope everyone had a happy, healthy Thanksgiving.  Things in the nurse's office have been relatively healthy.  Thank you for your prayers for general health in our students.  Wanted to share with everyone the success of making water available to our kids.  I began making water available to our population back in the end of September.  As of now, there is approximately one case (35 bottles) of water being bought, daily!  YES....that translates to between 9-10 gallons of water per day.  So...thanks to you for encouraging your children to drink water.  It would be nice if I could scientifically prove that this has helped decrease traffic in my office, but we will just have to be thankful that our kids are far more hydrated than they were before!

There are a plethora of things that I would like to be seen done differently here at Finney for the health and safety of the entire population.  However, my priorities and yours may very well be different.  Consequently, I would like to start a "Health and Safety Team" that is comprised of all stakeholders here at Finney.  I am looking for a parent and student from each level (high, middle and elementary school).  I am also hoping that I can get 2 or 3 staff/faculty members to participate.  My intention is to meet monthly and make a priority list of issues that may need to be addressed and work toward accomplishing at least one item from this list quarterly.  If you are interested in doing this, please send me an email at:  swilson@finneyschool.org    I look forward to hearing from YOU!  This team will begin meeting after the first of the year 2015!

I pray that everyone has a blessed Christmas, celebrating the birth of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.  Stay safe, enjoy your time with family and friends.
Prayer Group Meetings
Every year we are reminded that the #1 classroom need for teachers is PRAYER.  It is also the EASIEST to provide!   Anyone can pray ... anytime, anywhere.  Our teachers and staff members rely on our prayers for them each day as they minister to and teach our children.

If you are able, please join other Finney parents as we meet on Thursday mornings from 8:00 to 9:30am as we pray for our school, administration, faculty, staff and Finney families.  Come whenever you are able.  Coffee provided.  You can also join our email group to receive prayer requests to pray at home if you can't make the meetings.  Contact Kathy Smith at kathys0925@frontiernet.net  or

585-671-1644 for more information.

PLEASE
Prayerfully Consider:

Protecting Your Credit Card Info
moneybag_graphic.jpg

Protecting your credit card information is of utmost importance.   We are taking the following steps to ensure the safety of your personal information.

SWIPING - The most secure method for credit card transactions is for you to process your transaction in person in the Business Office.  Our hours are 7:30 a.m. until 3:30 p.m.   We are happy to serve you in this way if it is a convenient option for you.

TELEPHONE - When you call in to process a credit card transaction, we will directly enter your card information into our transaction terminal.    This may take a couple of minutes to process and we will verify the billing street number and zip code.  This extra step prevents fraud on your credit card and saves Finney money on every transaction we process.

MAIL - The US Mail is considered a MODERATELY safe method for delivering your credit card information to us.   After processing your credit card information, payment coupons containing credit card information are shredded.

EMAIL - Email is NOT A SAFE METHOD for communicating credit card information.  Please do not e-mail us your credit card information.

From the President

Dear Finney Family,

As we enter this season of Advent, I pray that your hearts and minds will be filled with a sense of hope, joy and expectancy. I pray that you will find time this season to spend reflecting on the incredible gift of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, What a joy it is to serve our Heavenly Father in a community of believers such as the faculty and staff of The Charles Finney School.

It seems as if only "yesterday" I was anticipating the start of the school year and here we are in the midst of Quarter 2 and nearing the end of 2014.  We at the Finney School are thankful for all that God has done, is doing and will continue to do this school year. He is faithful.

There is still a lot of school year left and I would like to encourage you to "get involved" as a volunteer with our PTO/Parent Volunteer Coordinator, come out and support our winter sports teams, enjoy the upcoming Christmas concerts, (Check out the online school calendar), pray about if there is a way that you and your family might give to the Annual Appeal during this season of giving and stay actively involved in helping your child to do their best to succeed in all that they do at Finney. There are so many ways that we can all "Do Something Greater".

Thank you for your continued prayers for The Charles Finney School.  We are appreciative and thankful for this daily covering.

May this season of expectancy be one in which your lives are full of hope and joy!

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!

Mr. VanLeeuwen
President
From the High School Principal

Quarter 2 is off to a great start. High School teachers are working hard to increase expectations and student achievement. We just completed a fantastic professional development day on incorporating more technology into our instructional practices.

We welcomed a few new students in November, bringing our High School enrollment to 136 students! Praise God!

Since we have many new families, I wanted to offer some dress code reminders. During Quarters 2 and 3, shorts and capris are not permitted. Hoodies are allowed on Friday only. Students should not be wearing long sleeve shirts under a short sleeve polo. No leggings please. The main thing to remember is a neat and modest appearance. Please read over the dress code section of the student handbook. As always, if you have any questions, please contact me or Mrs. Slattery in Student Services.

Please continue to stay in touch with your child about the college application process, community service hours, and the ACT/SAT test process. If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact me or Mrs. Slattery in Student Services.

The PLAN test results here! Mrs. Lydon will soon go over them in English class. College Board usually ships the PSAT results in December. Once they arrive, I will go over these results individually with our Juniors.

I pray your Christmas season will be filled with joy and wonder as you ponder the birth of our Savior. May your time with family be a blessing.

Upcoming Dates:
*12/3/14
Mid-Quarter 2
*12/15/14 MS/HS Concert
*12/22/14 - 1/2/15 School Closed (Christmas & New Year)

Merry Christmas!

Mrs. Lyon

High School Principal

From The K-8 Principal

What a blessing we have here at Finney! We are able to teach our students about the true meaning of Christmas. God became flesh and came to this earth so that we may know Him personally and live not only an abundant life, but an eternal life as well.

I want to thank all of our families who were able to attend our Open House. My hope is that you were able to get a better sense of the work that your children are engaged in every day .I also hope that you had a chance to connect with your child's teacher. They have a lot to offer and need your continued support to bring the best to our children.

Thank you to everyone who donated to The Ugandan Water Project. What a blessing it is to be able to bless others during this special time of the year.

We are excited to have one of our own Finney parents, Mr. Mark Viencek, present a chapel to the K-5 grades. He will be Mr. Charles Finney on 12/13 at 10:35. He will give the K-5 students insight about his life. You are welcome to attend.

We have a few events scheduled for the month:

Dec. 3rd Coffee with Mrs. P @ 9:00 in Conf. Room

Dec. 8th Elementary Concert (6:30)

Dec. 15th Middle School/High School Concert (6:30) De.22-Jan.2 School Closed

On behalf of the entire Middle and Elementary Staff, I wish you a Merry Christmas filled with peace and joy of knowing Our Savior, Christ Jesus.

The Annual Campaign is underway.  A special thank you to the parents who have already made their gift.

The Annual Campaign is the school's number one fundraising campaign every year. The success of the Annual Campaign, through the generous support of parents, is critically important to the continued GROWTH of Finney

Your gift to this year's Annual Campaign will:

Grow the Finney scholarship fund so more students who need and want Christian school education can attend.

Reach Finney's vision of being the leader in independent Christian K-12 education distinguished by excellence in program quality and student success.

Open students' hearts and minds to the Lord's will for their lives.

Worship the Lord by helping to accomplish His will for Finney.

Teach K-12 students in a nurturing environment that promotes the love of Christ and prepares them for college, vocation and life.

Help us meet the goal of $475,000. Every dollar raised supports each aspect of your child's education.

Another way you can support Finney - participate in United Way's ROC the Day on Tuesday, December 2 beginning at midnight.  Follow the link https://www.roctheday.org/ and search for Finney Corporate High School.  If your employer encourages its employees to participate in ROC the Day - ask your co-workers to also support Finney. We could use the support of our entire community.

Finney is blessed by the love, support and prayers of our families.  It is because of your commitment to Christian education that the Lord's will is being accomplished at Finney. May you and your family feel the overwhelming presence of the Lord during the Christmas season.

Serving in Christ,

Mrs.  Sheila Roman

The first quarter has successfully come to a close and report cards were emailed home, thanks to our new on-line system, RenWeb.   If you did not receive a report card for your student, please contact Student Services.

I included our first quarter Honor Roll in this month's news letter and have posted it in the hall outside of Student Services. CONGRATULATIONS to those who made Honor Roll.   In order for a student to achieve Honor Roll, they must have an average of 90-94.9 for honors, and 95-100 for high honors in core classes.  Please encourage your student(s) to continue the second quarter on a strong note.

The results of the tenth grade Plan Tests will arrive this month.  They will be discussed with the students and a copy will be sent home with each student.  Please be on the lookout for your child's results.  The results of the eleventh grade PSAT will be arriving soon too.

Please note that mid-quarter 2 is December 3rd.  Be sure to check RenWeb at the end of that week.  If you need information on how to create your RenWeb account, please contact the Main Office.

Just a reminder that ALL HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS are required to fulfill Service Credit Hours.   Service Hour Forms are available in Student Services and on-line.

Some special reminders for Seniors:

Request forms are available in Student Services, please provide the name and full address of where you want the paperwork sent.  Please allow at least 1 week for these requests to be processed.

Many colleges have an application deadline of January 1st or 2nd.  Please have any requests for colleges with these deadlines to Student Services NO LATER THAN December 12th.

CHRISTMAS FACULTY/STAFF APPRECIATION BREAKFAST

High School Families: Your help is needed!

It's the time of year when we get to be a blessing to the people who teach and support our children!

Our annual faculty/staff Christmas Breakfast, sponsored by the high school families, is coming up on Friday, December 19th from 7:00 a.m. to 8:00 a.m. and we need your help! Can you bless our staff by donating some fresh fruit for a fruit salad? Or delicious breakfast sausages? Making a yummy casserole for that day? Donating money to help cover associated costs? Or helping set up, serve or clean up?

Help from each family is appreciated! Look for details coming soon by email from your high school Parent Communications Rep, or click here to complete an the online volunteer response form. Questions? Contact Cathy Gretzinger at cgretzi@rochester.rr.com.

Thank you for making time to appreciate our incredible teachers and staff!

The Holidays are upon us. When you do your Christmas shopping at Target, please register your REDcard online. Finney will get a percentage back. Use Finney School ID: 22758

SCHOOLMALL.COM

The holidays are fast approaching. While you are shopping on-line, please remember Finney's fundraising program called "School Mall".  The ONLY thing you need to do is go to www.schoolmall.com and enter our school name in the box before ordering from your favorite on-line store. This fundraiser is easy and has great potential to help the school financially. Some of the vendors include familiar stores:Kohl's, WalMart, Target, iTunes, Best Buy, Sears, Netflix, Barnes & Noble, Old Navy. We earned about $500 dollars last year with no additional effort by our already busy volunteers. We could raise $1,000's of dollars with a little effort on everyone's part. Thanks for your help!
News from the Library & Media Center

"Lunch in the Library" Book Club Coming Soon!

Beginning in January, a new book club, "Lunch in the Library" will kick off for the fourth and fifth grade classes.

Students who want to join their club will meet for lunch once a week to eat lunch together, and read and discuss the same book.  The clubs will meet during lunch and recess time, and will run for 6 - 8 weeks.  If Lunch in the Library is a hit, they might be expanded to other classes, including middle school.

Lunch in the Library will be completely voluntary, but will require a commitment from each student to participate every week.  A small fee might be required to cover the cost of books.  Watch for details!

"Check Out" Our Library Website!

Did you know that the Finney Library & Media Center (LMC) has over 7000 books and materials available to our students, teachers, and parents?

All of these resources are available online on the Finney LMC Library Website, accessible from the Finney School Website.   Simply go to finneyschool.org, look under "Links" on the front page, and click on the link, "Library."  Once on the site, anyone can search for a particular book by title, author, subject, or ISBN.

Also available on the library website is a list of the various websites we use in class.  Often, students ask to "play at home," the educational games that we use in class.

Parents also recently asked me at the Finney Open House for ideas for learning games at home.  The website lists all the recent sites, their grade level, and actual links to the site.  These links will be updated throughout the year, as we use them.

You can find us on Facebook, Twitter and YouTube!
