From the President
Dear Parents,
We say it every year as we gather back together in September, so I will say it again for tradition sake, " Can you believe how fast the summer went by?" I do hope your family had an opportunity to enjoy the last several months.
We stayed very busy around Finney this year preparing for the new school year. A lot of time, energy, and money was spent to improve the appearance of the facility. Between some wonderful volunteer help, dedicated faculty and staff much was accomplished. We hope that you will have an opportunity to see the results of the hard work.
Along with facility improvements, we will continue our commitment to present the best possible learning environment for your child. Our faculty is dedicated to strengthening academic standards as we move closer to accreditation. A concentrated effort by administrations and teachers working together will enable us to do this.
As I am sure you have heard by now, the school unrolled a new school management software program called Ren Web this summer. This will provide our Finney families a great way to keep track of their child's progress along with other enhanced communication tools. As with any new software changes in organization there is a period of "growing pains". If you are experiencing any issue with the Parent Portal please contact my assistant, Mrs. Curtis - ccurtis@finneyschool.org. The faculty is still learning all of the components associated with this software. Your patience with us all is appreciated.
With everything new thing it is good to know that one thing remains constant and that is our Father's desire to see us all become more like His son. The faculty and staff are sensing that the Lord is going to do some mighty things in the lives of our students, your children, this school year. We had a great first hour together as we gathered back into a place that we know God has called us to be at this time. A line in part of a prayer that was shared at our first meeting stated the following, " You've had a plan for these children since before time began, and you've always known that our lives would cross paths this year." I can assure you that this school is dedicated to providing the best spiritual and academic environment for your child this school year or during this "crossing of paths".
Thank you for dedication and sacrifice to send your child to a Christian school. We remain dedicated to seeing your child "Do Something Greater" as a result of your child's time with us.
Blessings,
Mr. VanLeeuwen

Summer has come to a close and fall is just around the corner. I hope you are as excited as I am for yet another great school year! Welcome back to all our returning students! To our new students, we are so glad you have chosen Finney, and we welcome you to the family!
~Senior Class of 2015~ Be on the lookout for important information and paperwork from Student Services!
~New This Year~ We are pleased to announce that Finney has a School Counselor! Please join me in welcoming Mr. Andrew Palmer! Be sure to seek him out and introduce yourself. His office is located on the third floor, right next to the science lab.
The work on the Language Lab (third floor Spanish room) is almost complete. We will be offering a variety of languages through the use of Rosetta Stone programs. This is all possible with assistance from generous donors. Thank you, thank you! More to come on its progress... ~Dress Code Announcement~ No leggings of any kind are permitted. Thank you for abiding by the Finney Dress Code Policy.
~Music Department~ The orchestra/choir room has been renovated. Thank you to all who were involved in this extensive project! We are blessed by your service and generosity.
~Don't Forget!~ There are "No Gum" signs posted all over the building. Due to damage to the new gym floor, a decision was made to ban gum from the school campus. We want to be good stewards of this building God has blessed us with. So, please remember, no gum, at all, on school campus! Cell phones, iPads, and iPods (all electronic devices) must remain off during the school day. Students are asked to turn them off and leave them in their book bag, or locked in their lockers so as to avoid the temptation of checking a message or sending a text. There may be a rare occasion that a teacher will allow use in class for educational purposes.
~Contact Information~ If you have not met me yet, feel free to call me (387-3770 X236) or email me (alyon@finneyschool.org) to set up a time to talk! It is such a blessing getting to know the high school students and their families.
Upcoming Dates: 9/3 First day of school! 9/23 Parent Survey - results meeting 9/22-9/26 Spiritual Emphasis Week
Blessings for a great month!

Dear Parents,
It's hard to believe but it's that time of the year again - the beginning of a new school year. Welcome back! And while you aren't part of the teaching staff you are just as important to your children's education as we are.
Your children receive the best education when you and our dedicated teachers work as a team. It's a parents enthusiasm, support and involvement that inspires children to do their best; and a teacher's ability to teach what they need to learn. Together we can achieve wonderful things.
There's a lot of excitement ahead of us, including new teachers to meet, new books to read, new friends to meet and new skills to master...and I look forward to you sharing in those exciting times.
Thank you for the encouraging messages I have received by staff, parents and students. I am so excited about the 2014-2015 school year. I hope to meet you all at Curriculum Night on September 11th. I strongly urge you to set this date aside. It is an important step in building a relationship between home and school. I am sure you will appreciate the opportunity to meet other parents and hear about what your child will be doing in class this year. By working together, great things can be accomplished.
Blessings,
Mrs. Paganelli

 | Development Office Update |
September has finally arrived and there is no way of easing into the new school year. I think most parents would agree that the month of September flies by quickly because of the number of activities that take place the first month of school.
As you plan for September, please mark your calendar for the All Parent Meeting on Tuesday, September 23 at 7:00 p.m. We will be sharing the results of the 2013-2014 Parent Survey. We encourage all parents to attend, whether or not you completed the survey. Members of the board and administrative leadership will share the school's strengths while discussing some weaknesses. We will also discuss priorities for the school year. You won't want to miss it.
The Annual Homecoming 5K Race will take place on Saturday, October 11 at 9:00 a.m. This is an off-street race that starts on the Finney fields. Registration before September 30 is $20 ($15 for students). After this date it will be $25. All dollars raised will support Finney's scholarship fund. Register at: finneyschool.org.
This year we will be making a dedicated effort of connecting through social media - Facebook, Twitter and Instagram. You can find us on Twitter and Instagram @Finney School. If you are on Instagram, take a picture of your child/children on the first day of school and post it to #FinneyLife.
Lastly, but certainly not least, we appreciate the parents who provide donations over the summer to help us carpet the music room, areas in the elementary school, and the creation of the language lab. Financial support is critically important to growing The Charles Finney School. We rely on donations to renovate the school, create new academic programs, provide scholarships, and fund a variety of other things that are necessary for a growing and thriving school. Throughout the year, you will hear about a number of ways you can get involved through giving and volunteering. Please take time to consider each request. Parent participation is critically important to the success of our school.
We praise God for all He has provided Finney. We praise God for every Finney family. You are a valued member of our community!
Serving in Christ,
Mrs. Roman

WELCOME (BACK) FROM YOUR PTO!
Welcome Finney families, teachers, students and staff to the 2014-2015 school year! We are excited about the new school year and have been busy preparing for it over the summer.
We began our PTO activities with the family cookout at Genesis Day last week; we hope you had fun at the bounce house and enjoyed Bruster's ice cream! Our one and only fundraising event will happen in October - the Falcon Spirit Run; funds raised allow us to plan and oversee many activities and programs throughout the year including four teacher and staff appreciation meals, the Spring Open House family activities and games, the Parent Communications Rep program and Parent Prayer group. And the primary recipient of our fundraising efforts is the Christmas Blessing, a monetary gift to bless our faculty and staff. We would love to add more exciting events and groups and rely on parents like you for your ideas and your time.
We look forward to seeing everyone back at school and to welcoming new families! Check out our website, ask questions, we'd love to have your energy and enthusiasm! Any questions: Email the PTO at PTO@finneyschool.org.
We pray you and your children have a very blessed year at Finney!

 | Renweb |
The school is completing a transition from PowerSchool to Renweb, our new school management software. Renweb is used by over 3,000 schools nationwide and will prove to be a better program for the school as a whole. The Parent Web is where all families will access their child's grades, behavior reports, announcements etc. In order to access the "Parent Web" you must first set up an account. Please follow the instructions below to do this. Because school is not in session there will be no details to see other than the basic information. Please make sure each of your children are listed on this site.
Below are instructions on how to set up your account.
**Before you even begin the process of setting up a log-in - It is suggested that use FIREFOX as your web browser, if possible. We have found that both Google Chrome and Internet Explorer may have some difficulties when parents go to log in or set up an account on RENWEB.
1.) Go to www.renweb.com
2.) Click on the far right tab "Logins"
3.) Scroll to the first choice "Parent Web" and click
4.) Click on the "Create New ParentsWeb account" link
5.) You will see a window to enter "District Code"
6.) Enter TC-NY in the District code window (you must use capitals and the dash symbol just as you see it here)
7.) Enter your email address: this address must be one that we have in our system. If you changed your email since school ended last year you must call or email the school your new email address.
8.) Click Create Account. A password is emailed to the email address entered. You will then be able to log in to your account. Once you log in please make sure each of your children are listed on the page. Click over their name and you will have access to their schedule, grades, behavior reports etc.
I would encourage you to download the Renweb app available to all Android and iPhone users. Click on the "Learn More" tab to the right of the log in page. This app will give you immediate access to your child's information on Renweb no matter where you are. Your child may not like that, but you will love it!
We are in a transition period. All the faculty and staff are also learning the new system so we ask for your patience with us. Please contact the school if you are experiencing any difficulties with the Parent Web. Note: If you forget your password and have five "invalid" attempts we can reset your system at school.
This software is easy to navigate once you log in a few time and became familiar with it. We eventually will add more portals to the site that will include instant access to accounts and payment options.
