The 5 Biggest Myths About LighterLife

 
I've been a LighterLife Counsellor in Loughborough for over eight years now, so I've probably heard most of the myths about LighterLife by now.  Some of them are really quite funny, particularly if they are told in that "knowing" kind of way with a nod (think Les Dawson in the Cissy and Ada sketches). So here are the most repeated ones - followed by the truth!

Myth No. 1:- You can't exercise when you do it.
Truth No. 1: - Yes you can, infact it is both encouraged and highly recommended as part of creating a new healthy lifestyle.  What you can't do however is excessive calorie burning such as a 10 mile run, or high impact aerobics or circuit training etc because you will burn off too many calories.

Myth No. 2:- You'll be constantly hungry.
Truth No. 2- After a couple of days in total abstinence you enter into ketosis, which is when the fat burning kicks in.  The other main effect of ketosis is that it suppresses your appetite, so no you won't feel hungry.

Myth No. 3 :- It's a starvation diet - it isn't good for you.
Truth No. 3: - LighterLife is a medically approved, regulated and monitored Programme.  The nutrients in the foodpacks that replace food give you 100% of the nutrition your body needs in a day condensed down into 600 calories.  If you were to try and eat just 600 calories of food you would be on a "starvation diet" but on LighterLife the nutritional content of the packs is equivalent to around 1500 calories of top quality food.  It is the only safe way you can reduce your calorie intake down to such a low level.

Myth No. 4 :- It's not really counselling they give you, it's just a chat.
Truth No. 4:- Trust me, I haven't trained for the number of years I've trained for, passed exams and had umpteen hours of experience to just "have a chat" with my clients!  I use Transactional Analysis and Cognitive Behavioural Therapy with clients to help them understand their relationship with food. It's not a magic wand, it requires effort from clients, but it is very effective.

Myth No. 5:- You are never away from the toilet.
Truth No. 5:- The body constantly requires moisture to function.  When you have food stored in your stomach the body can extract the moisture it needs from it if you are not drinking enough.  On LighterLife the body efficiently takes all it's nutrients from the LighterLife packs quite quickly and therefore doesn't settle in the stomach for long, it is vital that you drink regularly to give the body the moisture it needs and to stay well hydrated (but not over-hydrated). If you are not used to being well hydrated it can come as a bit of a shock to the body and you will find yourself urinating more in the first week, but then it will balance itself out.  The benefits then will be clearer skin, better brain function, balanced mood, balanced energy levels - all the stuff that good hydration gives the body.

So you see there is so much more to losing weight than just eating less.
