Be Lean in 2015 - And Beyond!

I love bold affirmations that lift the spirits and create optimism, so when someone said to me this week "I'm going to be lean in 2015" I thought that was a great affirmation.  However, it then became obvious that she was only talking about weight loss.  So when I said "and what about after 2015?" she was bemused.

Like many people who enter determinedly into a weight loss plan, that is all they are looking for - weight loss!  Because that is traditionally what a "diet" aims solely to do, many people don't look beyond that at changing the way they eat and how they think about eating once they return to food.  A diet sees reaching your "goal weight" as the end - LighterLife sees it as the beginning of the most important bit: keeping the weight off and having a slim, fit, healthier life.

We work with clients to change their perceptions about the part food plays in their life to enable them to keep the weight off.

Let me give you some examples of what I mean:

OLD UNHELPFUL THOUGHT
NEW BALANCED THOUGHT
I can't change. It's the way I am.
I could change if I allowed myself to.
Food completely controls me, and it's frightening.
I am going to choose the way I think about and use food in the future.  It's my choice, nothing and nobody else's.
I just can't bear the thought of never ever having anything nice again.
Once I've lost the weight, the management stage of the Programme will educate me on how to create tasty, colourful, satisfying and exciting meals that will ensure I never feel hungry and have optimum nutrition leading to optimum energy levels, brain function, balanced mood and sleep.  How much nicer do I need it to be?
I just LOVE food!
I like nice tasty food.  "Love" is what I feel for my family/children/partner etc, it's not an appropriate emotion for food.
I don't need to change, I just need to get the weight off.
I do need to change.  If I go back to eating and drinking like I did before the weight will just return.  It's a basic biological fact!
Change just seems like too much hard work.
Regaining weight time after time after time and then having to look for the latest diet to get it off again is actually the exhausting bit.  Changing my relationship with food might seem a bit hard to begin with but it will soon become my "new normal", if I let it and then life will become so much easier.

Get the picture?

It's about being excited, optimistic, joyful and positive about the change you can create within yourself to get a different outcome.
