Walk with a Doc Newsletter

Good morning! Hope your month is ending nicely. It's been a peaceful week in Walk Land as we've been reassured that John Mayer and Katy Perry look to be getting back together (spotted getting cozy at her Memorial Day party). These past two and a half months (they broke up for the second time this March) have been hard on all of us. The timing of the reported reconciliation was ironic, as we'd invested a considerable amount on in-house counselors that just left our offices Thursday (HR said we suffered 310 sick days directly related to the March split). An interesting side note was that of all our teams, the WWAD Landscaping Division had the most difficulty coping. While they caught flak from our Strength and Conditioning team; we are proud to have a sensitive group of guys leading our horticulture arm. We are pleased to have them encouraged by this week's news, yet not over-the-top excited. We see that as a good sign and we thank our counselors for bringing the highs and lows more towards the mean. It's tough; it's obvious they are a very cute and highly talented couple.

Pain Killers and Heart Attacks
Our medically related article

As you read this article, please take note of several things. Please check out the doses of ibuprofen, what it says about Naproxen, and the importance of discussing with your doc. What it doesn't share that walking 15 minutes 3x week has reduced osteoarthritis pain by 40%. You exercise even more than that...

What we are reading
The PDT Cocktail Book
*Disclaimer: Please remember as you read this that alcohol, in moderation, is very protective for our hearts. It does not have to be red wine. As always, please do NOT start drinking just for health benefits and please consult your physician regarding the ill effects of alcohol.
It was the 'perfect storm'. Our WWAD Book Club had just finished 3 consecutive months dedicated to a series of 3 books based on the colloquialisms employed by some of the most popular 19th century Hungarian poets. You know, the really popular ones like Jokai, Petofi, Molnar. I could go on and on. One would think these Eastern European laureates from the 1800's would be non-stop entertainment, truth be told they needed some lighter reading.
Combine that with our latest venture, a full Mahogany bar that was just completed on our auxillary Walk campus, and we opted to go with the beautiful cocktail book for the month of June. It has 300 proven recipes that are old and new. The pictures are fantastic. I love pictures in books.

Walk or Run?
Another great article from NYT's Gretchen Reynolds

Please read this baby all the way through. You might even want to look at the comments (some good points). I'm not comfortable with all of the data, but the article brings forward some important thoughts. I was surprised/pleased to see the benefit of exercise in preventing development of cataracts (pun not intended).

Thank you for your patience.
