Dear Friends:

Happy Community Healing Days 2014, October 17, 18, and 19!

This year, we invite you to take a stand against the devaluing of the lives of Black people by joining in our #IValueBlackLives initiative. #IValueBlackLives is a call to action for each of us to take personal responsibility for helping to bring an end to the dehumanization and devaluing of the lives of Black people in Ferguson, Missouri, across the country, and around the world.

IValueBlackLives Join us in using #IValueBlackLives widely and posting this image on Facebook, Twitter and other social media networks. (Click here to download.)

This call to action builds on the late Dr. Maya Angelou's Call to Wear Sky Blue urging people to take a stand against the myths of White superiority and Black inferiority. In honor of Dr. Angelou, founding chair of CHN's Board of Advisors, we urge you to Wear Sky Blue during Community Healing Days to show that we value our lives and that we are determined to move, as Dr. Angelou said, "beyond the pain of the blues to the sky blue of unlimited possibilities."

And we ask you to reach out to your family and friends to encourage them to come together in small groups (during and after Community Healing Days) to envision that future of "unlimited possibilities"--in which the lives of Black people are truly valued. We invite you to share your visions of that future with us at www.communityhealingdays.com/reach-out, and we will keep the healing conversation going.

For nearly 400 years, Black people have been working from a script written for us by other people to suit their purposes. At the heart of that script is the idea that Black people are less than human. Let's write our own script to embrace the fullness of our humanity and take control of our destiny.

Thank you,

Enola Aird, Jill Snyder, Dottie Green, Natalie Roche, Wizdom Powell, Sheila Warren, Tarice Gray, Carl Miller, A.D. Carson, Margo Fugate, and Albert Gentry III, and all your friends at Community Healing Network, Inc.
