Our goal is to have an informed community that promotes personal choice and is connected to long term services and supports. |
Does Your Non-Profit or Small Business Want to Provide Health Insurance to Your Employees?
Non-profits and small businesses with 50 or fewer full-time equivalent employees may be able to provide qualified health plans for their employees through the Small Business Health Options Program (SHOP) Marketplace. SHOP is part of the Affordable Care Act.
Blue Cross Blue Shield is the only carrier offering SHOP Marketplace coverage in Bexar County and many of the surrounding counties. (Atascosa, Bandera, Bastrop, Bexar, Blanco, Burnet, Caldwell, Comal, Fayette, Frio, Gillespie, Guadalupe, Hays, Karnes, Kerr, Kendall, Lee, Lllano, McMullen, Medina, Travis, Wilson, and Williamson counties)
The Alamo Area Council of Governments (AACOG) will host two information sessions about SHOP in January. Anyone interested in attending should contact Nancy Dunn Thompson at nthompson@aacog.com. |

Some Delivery of Services to Change As Technology Offers More Efficient Means
Later in 2014, Social Security will stop providing benefit verification letters at their local offices. You still will be able to get an instant letter online by creating a personal my Social Security account or you may call their toll-free telephone number to request one by mail.
Also, to help prevent identity theft, Social Security number printouts will be discontinued since they have no security features and are easily misused or counterfeited. Read More |
2014 Older Americans Month Theme Announced
Each May, the nation celebrates Older Americans Month to recognize older Americans for their contributions and provide them with information to help them stay healthy and active. This year's focus will be on injury prevention.
Safe Today. Healthy Tomorrow
.
Older adults are at a much higher risk of unintentional injury and even death than the rest of the population. Unintentional injuries to this population result in millions of medically treated injuries and more than 30,000 deaths every year. By taking control of their safety, older Americans can live longer, healthier lives. |
