Affordable Care Act Information
and
Application Continues through March 31, 2014
If you or your organization would like information about the Affordable Care Act, also known as the Health Insurance Marketplace, you can call toll free at (800) 960-5201 to schedule an appointment to meet with a navigator near you in South Texas.
The AACOG navigators provide unbiased information to consumers so they can make informed decisions about the new government sponsored health care plans. Navigators work for government agencies like AACOG. They do not sell insurance or anything else and they do not recommend any policy over another.
They have completed more than 30 hours of training to be certified by the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) to help people understand and enroll in the new health plans. Navigators are required to complete HIPPA training to protect the privacy and confidentiality of everyone they assist. All AACOG navigators also complete a criminal background check. Many have had several years of experience assisting people with Medicare and other benefits.
In addition to educating individuals, navigators can provide information tables at events or make a presentation to small business owners or other groups. This service is available to any individual or organization in Atascosa, Bandera, Bastrop, Bexar, Blanco, Burnet, Caldwell, Comal, Fayette, Frio, Gillespie, Guadalupe, Hays, Karnes, Kerr, Kendall, Lee Llano, McMullen, Medina, Travis, Wilson, and Williamson Counties.
If you would like to speak to someone locally, e-mail or call: Toll Free (800) 960-5201 or email: healthinsuranceinfo@askasc.org. |
CuidadoDeSalud.gov Spanish Online Enrollment for Health Insurance
CuidadoDeSalud.gov, the Spanish online enrollment tool for the Affordable Care Act, is now live. This site represents another way for Spanish-speaking individuals to enroll in marketplace plans. Please share this information with anyone you know who will benefit from completing application and enrollment in Spanish.
To schedule an appointment with a bilingual navigator, please call Toll-Free (800) 960-5201 for more information. Spanish emails may also be sent to healthinsuranceinfo@askasc.org. |

Beneficiaries Celebrate the New Year with a COLA
Many people ring in the new year with champagne. People who receive Social Security or Supplemental Security Income (SSI) get to ring it in with a COLA. For 2014, more than 60 million Americans will get a 1.5 percent cost-of-living adjustment (COLA) in their monthly benefit payments.
The 1.5 percent increase begins with benefits for more than 57 million Social Security beneficiaries in January 2014, and payments to more than eight million SSI recipients in late December 2013.
Some other changes that take effect in January of each year are based on the increase in average wages. For example, the maximum amount of earnings subject to the Social Security payroll tax will increase to $117,000, up from $113,700. Of the estimated 165 million workers who will pay Social Security taxes in 2014, about 10 million will pay higher taxes as a result.
