ACC National Conference 2015

Corney & Lind Lawyers were delighted to be a Corporate Partner at the Australian Christian Churches (ACC) National Conference 2015.  We were pleased to speak with the attendees who visited us and spoke about their concerns and issues faced in Church-life and leadership both locally and abroad.

Having given legal advice in the Not-For-Profit and Charity sector for a number of years, we noticed that these areas of concern are not specific to one denomination, but are concerns that transcend ministries and sometimes overlap into associated entities, such as schools and mission programs.  Corney & Lind Lawyers can assist you in these multiple areas.

Kathleen Watt

Kathleen Watt (Lawyer) presented at the Hire & Rental Industry Association Queensland general meeting on the Personal Property Securities Register (PPSR) on the 15th April 2015.

In her presentation she discussed the basics of registering security interests (What does/does not need to be registered? What kind of security interests are there? What are the consequences of not registering?) and provided some useful tips in registering property interests.

Lease Disputes - What you need to know before "Changing the Locks"

James Tan

In Queensland, before a Landlord is entitled to re-enter the Leased Premises, re-take possession and terminate the Lease, the Landlord must generally first serve a Notice to Remedy Breach on the Tenant and provide a reasonable opportunity for remedy.

In this article, James Tan (Lawyer) covers what specific requirements this Notice must satisfy before a landlord is able to exercise a right of re-entry or forfeiture under the lease and provides us some 'take-home messages' for both Landlords and Tenants.  Read more here

Transitional Financial Reporting Arrangements for

Non-Government Schools

Kristel Winkler

At the Governance Symposium held by the  Association of Independent Schools of New South Wales (AISNSW) last week, the ACNC Commissioner announced that, for the transitional period, the financial data submitted by schools to the Department of Education and Training will be accepted as meeting the school's ACNC financial reporting requirements.

This removes the requirement for non-government schools to complete the financial questions of their 2014 and 2015 Annual Information Statements or to submit a financial report to the ACNC.

The ACNC has indicated that it will work towards reducing duplication and streamlining reporting processes for non-government schools beyond this transitional period.
