ACNC / Charity Law Updates

Updates from some of our senior specialist Charity and Not for Profit lawyers - Graham Corney, Andrew Lind and Kensie Corney:

- Federal Government indicates that it still intends to abolish the ACNC

- Charities with Annual Information Statements due by 31 December 2013 are given an extra 3 months

- Queensland Charities may be able to seek a land tax Exemption (and refunds) based on Word Investments

Commercial Law - Personal Property Securities Act transitional period coming to an end

Kathleen Watt, Lawyer, writes - "It is essential that personal property suppliers, businesses (including those who have historically relied on "retention of title"), licensors and lessors, and businesses with group structures have considered the nature of their personal property arrangements and acted to register all transitional security interests prior to 30 January 2014."

Developments in our team

Mark Northage has joined us as a senior Commercial lawyer. Mark comes to us with decades of experience in private practice and in-house commercial law roles. Read more about Mark ...

Heilala Tabete, Lawyer, has joined our Litigation and Dispute Resolution team. Heilala has particular interest in employment law, family law and intellectual property law related disputes.

Nina Brewer and Jessica Lipsett are intending to be admitted as lawyers later this month and Tina Boules will be joining us full time in 2014 after graduating with her law degree.

Andrew Lind has been appointed by the Council of the Queensland Law Society to be the Deputy Chair of the Queensland Law Society Not for Profit Law Committee.

By early 2014 we will have a team of 23 people including more than a dozen lawyers specialising in their chosen focus areas.
