Weekly Newsletter:

Final Share!

Well, this week is our last CSA share pick up - We hope you enjoyed the baskets and experienced a vibrant summer of vegetable health!

Second-Round Egg Shareholders - because we condensed the final shares, you'll receive 3 dozen eggs this week. I just wanted to assure you that these 3 dozen will last a long time - stored in the fridge, they will still be fine to eat and fresh-tasting for 3 or more months... after that they will start tasting more like grocery store eggs (although they'll still be much yellower and have much more nutrient density!).

Mushroom Share - Our mushroom grower has assured me that he will be coming by with shitakes and crimini tomorrow ...

I have been harvesting a lot of root crops in the crisp temperatures this week - these (potatoes, beets, turnips, etc) can be stored in the fridge for a very long time, in open plastic bags. I am also getting organic Granny Smith and Fuji apples, which are also best kept in the fridge.

As exhausted as we are at the end of the day, we are really going to miss harvesting and packing the baskets each week ... and we're already starting to plan the garden for next spring - planting herbs and garlic, spreading the compost that has been brewing all summer, and planting cover crops of green manure crops like clover, Lana wooly-pod vetches, and winter rye...

We're also planning what crops to grow next season - taking account of what did well, what did poorly, what was best liked, or not liked so much ... If you have any favorites, or things that you wish we planted more of, or things you didn't like so much of, let us know as it will really help us in planning for next year. We really appreciate the feedback and it helps us create a growing plan that is appealing to all!

We hope you'll consider joining our CSA again for next year!

All the very best and have a wonderful winter and holiday season!

PS - Don't forget to return your baskets this week if you still have any! I will put all the shares in cardboard boxes this week, so no need for you to return them ...
