Tip of the Month
Where to Start Becoming a Better Photographer?

1. First, get to know your camera.

2. Familiarize yourself with the most basic photographic concepts.

4. Use your camera at every opportunity.

3. Above all, do some soul searching and convince yourself that you can do this thing called photography. You can take better pictures, no matter what your previous pictures look like.

Happy Father's Day to all the wonderful Dads! We made it through "May Gray." Hopefully the "June Gloom" will bring us nothing but sunshine and fabulous photography weather.

Speaking of fabulous photography, we had "FAB" images at our digital photographic competition held on May 26th.  Great job on all your submissions and CONGRATULATIONS to Bobby Tan for Best of Show and to all the image makers!

Our monthly PPLAC outing was on May 16th. John Grusd led us through the Sepulveda Basin Natural Reserve & Japanese Gardens.  It was a great day for newborn wildlife and beautiful flowers in the gardens.  Don't miss the next outing on June 9th at the LACMA.  More information on all of our events can be viewed at pplac.org and click on the MeetUp calendar. PLEASE USE PPLAC.ORG. PPLAC.COM has been hacked.

June 12 - 17th will be a week of education and camaraderie at West Coast School in San Diego.  If you have never attended, please ask how you can receive a tuition scholarship for 2017.  You will never regret making the decision to attend this unique week with amazing photographers and qualified instructors.  More info at ppconline.com.

Mark your calendar for PPLAC's June 23rd general meeting! You will be inspired and educated with Ramiro Gaytan as he presents "Master the Art of Lighting".

PPC's next California FunDay will be on July 30-31 for Milky Way & Nighttime Photography, led by Sharon Lobel.  For more information go to ppconline.com and click on Events.

If any of you ever has any questions or suggestions, please know that I am always available to talk to you, via email (shutterbugsharon@aol.com), by phone (818-802-7597) or at our meetings.

Thank you for being a member of PPLAC.  You are a valuable part of this organization and we welcome your attendance and suggestions.
All the Best!

If you missed this outing, you really missed an adventure.

Save The Date!
Nothing Lacking at LACMA!

This PPLAC "Food for Thought" Outing will be a visit to LACMA, the Los Angeles County Museum of Art. This type of Outing is as much about gaining inspiration and understanding as it is about capturing images. Photography is of course a subset of the art world. The more we as photographers are aware of (and appreciate) the other disciplines, the better we will be as photographic artists. (There are also current exhibits featuring photographers Robert Mapplethorpe and Catherine Opie.)

The idea when viewing the works is to compare what you see to your personal sense of aesthetics and compositional knowledge. I guarantee you will see works, many much older than photography itself, that conform to what we hear from judges at our image compositions. You will also see things that fly in the face of those concepts.

We will have lunch on the LACMA campus. It's always helpful to discuss what we saw, what we liked or didn't like. Remember, these "Food for Thought" Outings are about ideas.

Of course, do bring your camera because there is plenty to photograph at LACMA including architecture, the outdoor displays and the La Brea Tar Pits. We will spend some time exploring photo opportunities before the museum opens.

Details:
·         Date - June 9th, 2016
·         Starting time is 10:00 A.M. That's an hour before the museum opens.
·         We will want to roam with our cameras for an hour before we enter the museum. (opens at 11:00 A.M.am)
·         We will meet near the main entrance along Wilshire Blvd next to the "Urban Light" installation which looks like a huge collection of street lamps bunched together.

Cost:
·         This Outing is free to all PPLAC members.
·         There is a $20 fee for non-members.
·          contact John to sign up: Email - johngrusd@gmail.com and Mobile 310 365 6364.
