Greetings!
It is with great sadness that I report to you our Marcia Gold has been diagnosed with colon cancer and has resigned as PPLAC President. Please keep her in your thoughts and prayers throughout her recovery and we all look forward to hearing great news along the way about her healing.
On that note, it's an honor to take over as your PPLAC President and I will do everything possible to guide and educate you as we all strive to become better photographers. I'm happy to have Mel Carll step up to the plate and take over my position as the 1st VP along with the remaining board Cheryl Provencio as 2nd VP, Teresa Pepe as Secretary and Liz Chalmers as Treasurer. April was a very busy month for PPLAC members starting with an exciting outing led by John Grusd on the Metro Red Line from North Hollywood to Union Station. Then we had Karen Nakamura teach a few of our members all about making photo templates and cards. Next, we had a fantastic workshop taught by Rusty Nelson on the "Nuts and Bolts of Lightroom". We finished off the month with our speaker, Tim Mathiesen, as he guided us thru the process of image competition judging and why we get those dreaded 79 scores. So, April was not only fun but, very educational. I really encourage everyone to please take advantage of these member outings, workshops and speakers!
May will feature our PPLAC outing with John Grusd on May 16th as he leads us thru the Sepulveda Basin Natural Reserve and the Japanese Gardens. On March 26th will be our second Digital Photographic Competition...so step up your game and walk home a winner that evening! Please read the DPC rules and if you have any questions contact DPC Director, Karen Nakamura. More information on all of our events can be viewed at pplac.com, then click on MeetUp calendar for details.
PPC, Professional Photographers of California, held the annual Awards and Banquet on April 10th. Congratulations to all the winners! PPC's next California FunDay will be on May 14th with a full day at the LA Zoo led by Robin Swanson. For more information go to ppconline.com and click on Events.
And last but not least, West Coast School. This is an once-in-a-lifetime learning opportunity that PPC presents every single year. You get to spend an entire week with one famous photographer in small, intimate classes. It has changed the lives of many members; do not miss this! More info at ppconline.com. If you have any questions or suggestions, please know that I am available to talk to you, either by email ( shutterbugsharon@aol.com) or by phone (818-802-7597) or at the meetings. Don't forget to renew your membership. You are a valuable part of this organization, and we welcome your attendance and suggestions. Sharon Lobel President

Tim Mathiesen gave a great presentation on the inside story of PPA Competition. It was very interesting to find out how a judge scores your image and the process it takes to get a merit image.

If you missed this outing, you really missed an adventure. It wasn't all about trains! If you missed this outing then hopefully you will join us for one later. It was a great day filled with exciting sites and history underneath the streets of Los Angeles - riding the train from N. Hollywood to Union Station. There is so much art and great stuff under the streets....WHO KNEW??? Thank you John for organizing such a fun day.

Save The Date!
This One's for the Birds...and More!
In this PPLAC Outing (with me, John Grusd) we will venture deep into the wilds of the San Fernando Valley and visit the Sepulveda Basin Natural Reserve. It is both home and stopover for waterfowl and shorebirds. This is a great place to practice photographing birds on the wing and at home in their lake and scrub habitat. The second part of the Outing is a visit to the adjacent Japanese Garden where you will find a beautifully sculpted 6 ½ acre garden with pavilions and a lake. It's a wonderful place to focus on the details and contrasts between the natural and man-made features of the garden.

Details:
· Date - May 16th, 2016 (Monday)
· Starting time is 6:30 A.M.
Cost: · This Outing is free to all PPLAC members. · There is a $49 fee for non-members. · If a non-member signs up for the outing and wishes to join PPLAC prior to or on the day of the outing, then the $49.00 fee will be waived. If a non-member decides to join PPLAC in the future, the Outing fee will be applied toward the Membership fee. · You will need to purchase admission to the Japanese Garden for $5.00. · You are also responsible for your breakfast.
