Happy Valentine's Day to everyone!
We had a fabulous turnout at our Open House in January. The theme was "sports," and Sharon Lobel shot a hole-in-one with her fabulous Golf Table.
I'd also like to thank Mel Carll for his two years of Presidential service to our organization. Mel's devotion and hard work has made this group a top notch place to network, learn and share. As Parliamentarian for the next two years, Mel will continue to share his wisdom and guide PPLAC.
And now, let's hear it for our Photographer of the Year Award winners!
2015 Photographer of the Year: Jim Akers
Photographer of the Year Landscape: Bob Young
Photographer of the Year Nature: Jim Akers
Photographer of the Year Open: Bobby Tan
Photographer of the Year Portrait: Bobby Tan
Judge's Choice Award, selected by Tim Mathiesen: Mel Carll
We also installed the new Board of Directors for 2016. Sharon Lobel will serve as the 1st Vice President; Cheryl Provencio will be our 2nd Vice President; and Teresa Pepe will continue to serve as Secretary with Liz Chalmers as Treasurer. The Digital Photographic Competition Director will be Karen Nakamura (we are so lucky to have her!) and her team consists of John Grusd, Teresa Pepe, Jillian Ellis, Glen Glancy and Marcy Dugan as moderator. Bob Reiter will be our Event Photographer; Norman Reneau will continue with fundraising, along with his co-chair Gary Chavez; and our Webmaster (website & newsletter) will be Alicia Bravo. Membership will be co-chaired by John Grusd. If you'd like to serve on the PPLAC Board, we would love to have you get involved and your knowledge and advice are very much welcomed! Just let any of us know of your interest.
Our first regular meeting of the year on February 25 will feature nationally-known macro photographer Frank Peele, who will share some of his secrets for up close and personal photography, along with some wonderful images he's created.
The first Digital Photographic Competition of the year will be held at our March 24 meeting. There's a chance we will hold a DPC Boot Camp, to help newer members refine their images for competition, so keep an eye out for future announcements.
Just a reminder-- you still have time to enter the PPC State competition. Non-PPC members can enter for the first time, but the deadline is coming up (last day is February 12). Even if you don't enter, try to attend the actual competition at Tri Community in Covina on February 28, so you can see how everything works. Go to ppconline.com for more information or check out the PPLAC.com calendar.
If any of you ever has any questions or suggestions, please know that I am always available to talk to you, either by email (
marcia@marciagold.com) or by phone (310-377-0215) or at the meetings.
Don't forget to renew your membership. You are a valuable part of this organization, and we welcome your attendance and suggestions.
