Welcome PPLAC members to 2016! I am honored to take on this very special position, leading the Professional Photographers of Los Angeles County through the next two years.
  
I'd like to take this chance to thank Mel Carll for two years of amazing Presidential leadership. Even facing serious personal health issues, he somehow managed to act like nothing was wrong, smiling his way through all kinds of challenges, and giving us two years of continual inspiring education, competition and networking.
  
And... I cannot say enough about his hard-working, dedicated Board and committee members, many of whom will continue in the same positions in 2016. They all worked behind the scenes to make this seem as smooth as glass-it wasn't easy! But it's been a wonderful ride. So, in advance, I'd like to thank all the Board members who are as much a part of this PPLAC machine as I am

2016 will be another exciting year for PPLAC members, old and new. Our annual sports-themed January Open House kicks off the New Year on January 21st with a blast of fun, food & awards. February brings our first speaker, Frank Peele, who will teach us all about macro photography. His program has been extremely popular nationally, and we are lucky to have him. Our first Digital Image Competition of the year will be in March, followed by April speaker Tim Mathiesen discussing the "dreaded image competition 79;" and the rest of the Image competitions will be in May, August and November. Speakers for June, July, September and October will be announced as the year goes on.
  
We're also lucky to have award-winning photographer (and PPLAC member) John Grusd in charge of our 2016 Photo Outings. John's enthusiasm and experience will give lucky PPLAC members a photography insider's look at Los Angeles and environs. Each outing will be announced at the meetings and on our website, so keep checking.
  
Another benefit of involvement in PPLAC is the famous Professional Photographers of California West Coast School. WCS is held annually in June in San Diego. This five-day intensive offers members hands-on educational and motivational workshops by the industry's top names and talent. Instructors appearing this year include world-famous landscape photographer Ken Sklute, portrait photographer Kristi Sutton Elias, Photoshop expert Michael Collins, lighting guru Tim Meyer, Corel Paint expert Marilyn Sholiin, macro photographer Frank Peele, and lighting and posing pro Rick Ferro. We'll keep you posted with additional information about West Coast School as the year goes on.
  
Note to PPLAC members: If you want to enter this year's PPC State Photographic Image Competition, the submission deadline is January 31 (for the standard fee), and February 1-12 if you pay a bit more, so be sure to submit your images before January 31 if you can. For additional information, check out PPC's website at http://www.ppconline.com/events/print-competition/. This is a great opportunity for affiliate members to compete at the state level.

Get Your Image Ready For The Judge's Choice Award

The Judge's Choice Award is always a prestigious award that is given at our PPLAC Open House and Awards dinner by an unknown judge.  

In order to be considered for the 2015 PPLAC Judge's Choice Award you must meet the following guidelines:

1. You must be a member of PPLAC in good standing.
2. You can enter up to two (2) printed images no larger than a 16" x 24".
3.  Prints must be mounted and can be framed but not necessary.
4.  Any medium is acceptable.  (Metal, Gallery Wrap, Acrylic, etc...)
5.  You MUST be present to win.
