Cheers!

Plans are well underway for a superb 2014 at PPLAC!

The New Year gets underway with our amazing annual January Open House -- with a Roaring '20's theme.  Then, we have the year of monthly general meetings ALREADY BOOKED with outstanding photographic speakers and amazing photographic competitions.  Photo Safaris and workshops will also be added to the schedule.  And, I'm gearing up for more Get Togethers (GTGs) at my studio, where small groups of PPLAC members gather to informally work photo magic!

Now, we're busy getting the 2014 PPLAC Board of Directors slate together.  To date, current 1st VP Mel Carll is on the ballot for President and Teresa Pepe is on the slate as Secretary.
Many of our other current board members have served us loyally for years are now moving on to new opportunities with PPC as well as other professional and volunteer commitments.

That's where YOU come in:  We need 'new blood' to bring PPLAC into 2014 with high energy.  Do you have experience with QuickBooks, WordPress, Constant Contact, photo competitions, websites, writing---- or just want to jump 'on board'?

The positions of First Vice President, Treasurer, Second Vice President,Digital Photo Competition Director,  Communications Director/Webmaster, Newsletter Editor, Membership Co-Chair and Hospitality Co-Chair are open!  YOU could be the perfect person to fill one of these posts.

Reach out to me to step up!-- or to just inquire about ways your participation can make PPLAC even better in the New Year.

Cheers,

Bob Young

PPLAC President

This Month's
Photog Tip
by Mel Carll

Painting with light is a popular photographic technique for those who love to create experimental images after dark.  Most light painters use LED lights and/ or flashlights and glow sticks to add special effects and luminous shapes to their images.  Some more daring photographers are experimenting with the use of fire.  Now that is one hot light.......

October Meeting RECAP

Retouching savant Dennis Dunbar unleashed even more Secrets of the Pros/Part 2 at our General Meeting.   Masks, smart objects, layers, color correction, curves, clipping groups, and stylizing shots make up just some of the subjects that lit up the room.  Thanks to Dennis for his generosity in sharing not just once, but twice, in mere months.  Our Photoshop skills will undoubtedly improve with his brilliance.

Fine Portraiture Workshop Recap
"The Creating of the Fine Art Portrait from Concept to Completed Print"

Last month's PPLAC workshop with award-winning photographer (and PPLAC member) George DeLoache brought insight into the creative process.  George shared his method of capturing the perfect portrait;  get inspiration, then conceptualize it and design it in your head before rendering it into a photograph. George utilizes  a remote to test out his shots, using himself as his 'stand-in model' to perfect the pose and lighting before bringing in the model or client.  A few of the attendees got a real treat:  they modeled for George-- getting the ultimate portrait.  Bob Young's is the best portrait I've ever seen of him!
