"The ROS 9 is simply too much fun to ignore. It brings a new love for old trails to life, offering fresh challenges and excitement along the way. The bike's slack head angle, adjustable geometry, wide tires and big wheels let you get away with just about anything. It requires skill to ride fast through the rough, yet it's surprisingly forgiving. A rider who appreciates being connected with the trail and the bike beneath them will absolutely love this bike. The "Ride Over Sh*t" meaning couldn't be more appropriate, and you'll find yourself seeing what kind of craziness you can get away with on a daily basis. It might even make you question if all the latest gizmos we're bombarded with are really needed.

When asked if they would buy one, every one of our testers said, "Hell yes!" That doesn't happen often..."

The ROS 9 Lets you take full advantage of increased steering precision as you get yourself into trouble. The hardtail for riders that don't like hardtails. No twitchy high-posting around features you would hit on your "real" bike. No need to back off because your XC racing head angle prevents solid roosting. The ROS 9 won't judge your lines - it lets you write checks your skills might not be able to cash, and what is more exhilarating than that? Short chainstays, slack head angle, and oversized headtube nourish these Roots of Steel - all with the ability to tweak the geometry via the BioCentric II. Run this rig singlespeed, 1x or fully geared with a front derailleur if you roll that way. Remove the cable guides and front derailleur mount if you don't. Stealth routing for the dropper post keeps the ROS 9 fresh and clean. Sorry, the ROS 9 is not compatible with heartrate monitors or training plans but it will certainly earn you some PRs when you do your part keeping the rubber side down.

  • Rowdy steel radness from the 29er-only mountain bike company
  • Zero mm of suspension is efficient in every chaingring
  • 44mm OS headtube is compatible with 120-140mm forks
  • Aggressive geo is slack and low with extra-short chainstays
  • BioCentric II enables perfect singlespeed setup and allows geometry fine-tuning
  • Forged frame details and internal dropper post routing
  • 142mm x 12mm rear spacing
  • Available in Forge Grey or Purple options
  • MSRP $899 USD (frame includes derailleur hanger, single speed insert, cable retention hardware, BioCentric II, headset, YAWYD, seat collar and maxle)

The 4130 Cro-Mo tube set of the ROS 9 is the trusted standard for durability and ride quality. These tubes are beefed up to handle the abuse the ROS 9 is designed to shrug off. The super-short chainstays provide a lofty front end feel while the slack HT angle keeps the front end composed at Mach Loony speeds.

A neutral BB height can be made low or high to slay YOUR trails by positioning the BioCentric 2 where it will do the most good.

The front derailleur hanger is removable with an alloy cover. Internal dropper post routing is optional, another alloy cover closes the port if you choose not to use it. Externally routed dropper posts utilize mounts under the top tube. Tabs under the bottom bracket shell accept a proprietary MRP XCG bash guard for optional extra protection. Full-housing cable routing for front and rear derailleurs using Niner's bolt-on double housing clamps along top and down tubes complete the versatility. If you don't need the guides, take them off and enjoy the clean look of theframe in singlespeed mode.

We borrowed the unique dropout design we developed for the SIR 9 to allow 142x12 Maxle use and house the stout alloy derailleur hanger. The dropout designs allow the chain stays and seat stays to be welded at any angle and provide far more surface area for a full weld around the tube's end.

Niner staff recently had the pleasure of attending Dirt Rag's Dirtfest, a 3 day mountain bike, music, beer and camping festival held at Raystown Lake, Pennsylvania. We expected to have a great time, but what we didn't expect was to find a prime example of how trail advocacy and trail building could completely transform the local bike scene.

"The Allegrippis Trails is a 32-mile network of mountain bike-optimized trails located at Raystown Lake in central Pennsylvania. Allegripis first opened to the public in May of 2009. The trails have since grown into one of the premier destination systems in the Mid-Atlantic. Often described as a mountain biking roller coaster, the trails are a completely different experience from what had become the standard for Pennsylvania riding."

- IMBA Economic Impact Fact Sheet, Raystown PA

The numbers are clear - in the first season, there were 5,703 visitors to the day use trailhead. In 2010, there were 25,683 visitors and in 2011 the region saw 26,619 visitors. Anecdotally, the local campground (and Dirt Rag Dirtfest venue), was slated for closure in 2009, instead, it has expanded it's seasonal operating dates. The growth has supported the opening of a new bike shop as well as restaurants and lodging opportunities.

When contacted, Wendy Kerr, IMBA Development Coordinator said, "In places where local retailers have collaborated with their local IMBA chapter and regional directors, we have seen major growth in great places to ride, including trails and bike parks."

We can back up Wendy's testimony with our own anecdotal evidence - towns such as Fruita, CO, Hurricane, UT have all benefitted from recent strong leadership in trail and land access advocacy efforts - check the above links for compelling stories specific to those regions.

We at Niner Bikes strongly support the efforts of both IMBA and local shops and volunteers that make our mountain bike passion possible and our communities healthier. When communities see the benefits of supporting mountain biking,  they are motivated to open up more trail opportunities for everyone.

What can you do as an individual rider? Encourage and support shops that support IMBA. Join IMBA yourself and show up for a trail dig day and perhaps even more important, for community meetings.
