I can't take credit for this idea. It started in San Francisco and has been moving across the country. Glenn Shepard and I talked about it yesterday before his seminar and he does something like this in Nashville. By the way, the seminar was great and I thank the NPRCoC Members who attended, but back to Cash Stash New Paltz.
The idea in broad strokes is to hide an envelope with some cash in it in a public area and give out clues on social media as to the location. When someone finds the envelope they post their picture, what they found and where they found it. They then pay it forward in some manner whether it is buying coffee for people in line behind them or making a donation to their favorite charity. It's up to them.

Now - while I think it would be great for the New Paltz Regional Chamber of Commerce to be able to stuff envelopes with $100, that might be a little far fetched. What we can do is put our twist on it and that is where we need you - our Members.
Picture that the Chamber sets up the social media part and obtains a gift certificate from Member Business XYZ for lunch for two, 50% off, some free swag or whatever is offered. We then go and hide that at or near Member Business XYZ and start posting clues. People come looking for the hidden item and ultimately your business gains exposure through social media and word of mouth. We will make sure that we tell everyone that you participated in this perhaps using a QR code sticker that we put on your door.
New Paltz is the perfect locale to do this. In fact, I'll put my money where my mouth is on this one. There will be an envelope with $50 cash- President Grant on it- hidden by 2:15 pm today. First clue goes to those of you who actually read this:
"You'll find it upstairs."
Second clue will go out on social media at 4:30 pm today.
Please contact us if you'd like your Member Business to participate in this program that people will be talking about.
Have fun and good luck.

I'd Planned to Go By My Initials: One Woman's Experience in Publishing
"I'm a writer. I'm a woman. I swear a lot, and I write dark, creepy books about people who also swear a lot. Trying to succeed in the publishing industry while navigating the fairly choppy waters created by all of these factors swirling around me has been, and continues to be, an experience that swings from exhilarating to infuriating from one split second to the next. Join me and I'll try to make you laugh while I tell you about it. With any luck, you'll never look at a book cover the same way again."
