We have passed that magical point from Spring into Summer and we deserve that, after the Winter we had. With the fair weather, we have had an influx of visitors to the area and that is always a good thing. We are happy to direct them to your businesses and to the sights, sounds and vibe of New Paltz and the Hudson Valley Region. The Walkway Over the Hudson, Mohonk Preserve, the Wallkill Valley Rail Trail, Lake Minnewaska, and Historic Huguenot Street look to be high up there in destination traffic. As always, the shops, boutiques and restaurants are a big draw too.
Speaking of draws - the FIFA World Cup is in full swing in Brazil, and I have seen some great football in 2014. The upstart United States team faces a big test this Thursday when they play Germany. If you see people walking around with flags and yelling, "I believe that we will win" then you know that it is "game on" and they are interested spectators. Great to see people being patriotic when it isn't a holiday.
The Chamber has some great events coming up in July highlighted by Glenn Shepard on July 8th and our Golf Outing on July 24th. Glenn will tell you how to deal with difficult people and then a few weeks later you can release your stress on the golf course when you "Take it Out on a Titleist". Both events will be well worth your time. Anytime on a golf course is a good time. You might network with your next best client. You never know.

Last week, our Foundation has its Scholarship Awards Breakfast at the Mohonk Mountain House. It was a great event with a very inspiring speaker and we were given a preview of some of our up and coming leaders. All the Scholarship recipients were serous forces in the classroom and community. We will be keeping an eye on them as they continue their education.
Finally, I will be attending the Northeast Institute for Organizational Management week-long seminar at Villanova the last week of July thanks to the New Paltz Regional Chamber of Commerce, the Foundation and the Chamber Alliance of New York State. What is IOM? These are a few of the class titles: Recruit, Engage and Retain Your Members, Speaking With Confidence, Financial Fitness and Unleash the Leader Within. These are the types of things that your Chamber wants to do for our Members. We want to get better so that we can make your business even more successful. Thank you to the Foundation and to CANYS for making this happen.
Make it a great day!

I'd Planned to Go By My Initials: One Woman's Experience in Publishing
"I'm a writer. I'm a woman. I swear a lot, and I write dark, creepy books about people who also swear a lot. Trying to succeed in the publishing industry while navigating the fairly choppy waters created by all of these factors swirling around me has been, and continues to be, an experience that swings from exhilarating to infuriating from one split second to the next. Join me and I'll try to make you laugh while I tell you about it. With any luck, you'll never look at a book cover the same way again."
~Kelly Braffet
