Nurturing Community For Over A Century.
Connect.  Communicate.  Collaborate.

We try, very hard in fact, to educate new and seasoned Members alike about how to get the most out of their New Paltz Regional Chamber of Commerce Membership. This is one of the questions that I am asked over and over. I approach this question through education.  You see, I don't know who taught you how to navigate the Chamber, so I approach this as though you were never fully shown. Worst case scenario - you have heard it before, but reminders are always good.

Ready? I'll do this in the form of David Letterman's Top Ten List. Sorry Jimmy.

Here are the top ELEVEN ways to maximize your Membership
(I know... gotta be different.):

  1. Network. You may think you aren't good at it, but I bet you are. If you really aren't, well, we can hold your hand a few times. Bonus, our events are cool.
  2. Have a sales pipeline. Don't have one? The Chamber has one that you can get a few names out of- it's called a directory and it is online too.
  3. Volunteer. You never know who you are going to meet when you volunteer at the New Paltz Challenge, the Taste of New Paltz or the Business Showcase. Bonus here* Join the Membership Success Committee* and you'll get a list of all the new Members who will want to speak with you.
  4. Smile. This will just help you in life too.

Do this when you talk on the phone, the people on the other end will notice.
  5. Embrace social media. It works and the more people see you posting interesting stuff, the more they will think of you and your business.
  6. Stop by our office. Staying top of mind is important. It's old school to stop in and just say hi. I'd say it's pretty impressive also.
  7. Be unique. Dress, act, speak in a distinctive style (or drive a hearse or Ferrari.  Either way, you'll get noticed - we promise.).
  8. Have a great business card. Not mediocre or OK.
    G R E A T.
  9. Speak in front of groups. BNI, Toastmasters, Rotary, the Town Board... This sharpens your skills and keeps you in practice.
  10. Elevator Speech. Have one so you can get off the ground floor. Don't have one? See you on May 28th for the Speed Networking Luncheon.
  11. Fail at things. Babies fall before they can walk. The greatest people on the world fail at things as much as you do. They just fail faster. Being a failure will make you a success.
Glenn Shepard has 10 Rules of Work that I found are very enlightening and real world relevant. He will be with us on July 8th. Sign up on our website to see him. As I said before, I took six pages of notes when I saw him speak in Albany in January.  He's not to be missed!

See you at the Chamber!
