As I put my key in the door this morning to open up the office, I had a fleeting thought. I stood there for a few seconds thinking about where we have been and where we are going and I thought, oddly enough, of Don Draper from Mad Men (season premiere April 13th). If you've never seen the show, the fictional Don Draper has this thing with keys. He drops them a lot, forgets them, gets them from under doormats, and those who watch the show probably see him unlock his office at least twice an episode. He and his fictional company, Sterling Cooper and Partners, were at a crossroads at the end of last season. SC&P and the NPRCoC are standing at the same precipice, theirs fictional, ours reality. The New Paltz Regional Chamber of Commerce writes its own storyline. This last season, November 2013 through April 2014, has been entertaining, enlightening, hopeful, dramatic and full of plot twists. As one of the authors of this collaborative effort, I can safely say that I am looking forward to some smooth sailing. Let's recap this first half-season. The W.O.W. Factor continues to astound, H.Y.P.E. is active in the community and is providing opportunities for younger Members and Future Members alike, our first Flash Mixer gained national attention in Chamber of Commerce circles, we have co-booked Glenn Shepard to speak to our Membership and the Membership of the Ulster County Chamber of Commerce, and we have routinely sold out After-Hours Mixers and Business Card Exchanges. We have brought back the Business Breakfast series, booked interesting and diverse speakers for our Luncheons and are looking to offer more learning opportunities to our Membership. We have circulated the map, the app is out there for your use, the gift card will be ready for the holiday season and we continue to look at new opportunities as they present themselves. The 2nd Annual Business Showcase is sold out to vendors, the speaker lineup is top notch, and we see great B2C traffic as well. I am working with other organizations to provide our Membership with opportunities that are simply not offered at other Chambers of Commerce. We do this for you, our valued Members and our community. We look forward to seeing you at an event, around town, or whenever we are able to see you. We say it because we mean it. To keep with the Mad Men theme, the teasers for the new season feature the main characters in airports or on airplanes. Like those airplanes depicted there, our trajectory features a steady climb out until we reach our cruising altitude. Welcome aboard! We anticipate calm skies, great weather and an early arrival.
See you at the Chamber! Peter Ingellis Interim President
