May was an exciting month at SUNY New Paltz.  Not only did the University hold its annual Graduate and Undergraduate Commencement ceremonies, the participants of which we wish our sincerest congratulations including our very own Interim Director of Marketing and Communications here at the Chamber, Helen Gutfreund, who earned her second degree, a Bachelor of Science in Art Education, but the School of Business sponsored a couple of events that the Chamber and we were especially proud to be involved with.

The School of Business hosted their 2013 Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony which we attended with over 200 enthusiastic guests.  We were especially pleased to honor Chamber member Rick Alfandre, Alfandre Architecture, PC, that day, who received the Alumnus of the Year award.  Congratulations, Rick!

 

We were also invited to sit on the judge's panel at the school's 2012-13 Business Plan Contest.  Six talented teams of students competed and while we were tasked with selecting one winner, the ideas that were presented and the caliber of students involved give us great hope for the future of our business community.

 

June is shaping up to have some exciting events that you'll want to attend.  Our June After Hours Mixer will be at At Tavola Trattoria, and our Business Luncheon will be held at The Terrace Restaurant, featuring speaker Dr. Donald Christain, President of SUNY New Paltz, as well as the award presentation to our 2013 Scholarship winners.    Please see below to sign up for these events. Father's Day Half Marathon and Family 5K
4th Annual New Paltz Challenge Father's Day Half Marathon & Family 5K to be held Sunday, June 16, 2013
New Paltz Challenge 2013

Registrations are coming in fast and furious for the Chamber's 4th Annual New Paltz Challenge Father's Day Half Marathon & Family 5K to take place on Sunday, June 16th. 

Registration is from 6:00 - 7:00 a.m., the Half Marathon Start is at 7:30 a.m and the 5K Start is at 8:00 a.m.

  

Both the Half Marathon & the 5K feature:

  • Chip timing
  • Water stops
  • Age group prizes
  • Post-race refreshments
  • Flat courses (ideal for personal bests)

The Half Marathon also features finisher medals. New this year: special discounts and prizes for father/child teams!

Governor Cuomo's Regional Economic Development Councils
Round 3 of Talks
Governor Cuomo recently announced Round 3 of the Regional Economic Development Council.   These councils are public-private partnerships made up of local experts and stakeholders from business, academia, local government, and non-governmental organizations.

We recently  migrated our Facebook account from a personal profile to a business page and changed the name to New Paltz Regional Chamber of Commerce!  While this gives us more a professional presence, it restricts some of the functionality we formerly had as far as communicating directly with our "friends".  Please make sure you "like" us on Facebook to make sure you see all the great things we are posting there, like photos, links to member sites, and events.

Also, as a member benefit, you can now have your listing on our website link directly to your company's social networking sites.  Just log in to your member portal on the Chamber's website and click on the "Update Social Network(s)" link!

For all Chamber events, please note that all reservations not honored will be billed.

Cancellations must be made 24 hours in advance. Non-members are invited to attend a maximum of three (3) after-hours mixers or business card exchanges at the non-member fee.

New Paltz Regional Chamber of Commerce members gathered at
Gilded Otter for a delicious lunch and to hear Michael Treanor, CEO of resort owner Claremont Partners, Ltd., gave a frank presentation of the likelihood of legalized non-Indian gaming in New York State, specifically at Nevele Resort, Casino and Spa, and what the proposed 452-room hotel and 3.5 million-square-foot casino would mean for the Hudson Valley's economic health. The luncheon was generously sponsored by
