Standards - Did you know that...?

Industry is the main stakeholder in standardisation; it invests an estimated 1 billion euro per year in standards development and purchase of standards and thereby covers between 90 to 95% of the total cost of standardisation in Europe.

Our industry is a long lasting supporter of the European standardisation system, which in our view is a useful instrument to boost performance of European Industry while addressing the Commission's objectives in the framework of the 'New Approach' [more]
Letīs get Europe back on track for 2050: Europe can be energy efficient!

Under the auspices of the EU Sustainable Energy Week (EUSEW), Orgalime and its co-organisers, EHI, ESMIG, Europump, Lighting Europe and T&D Europetoday showcased technologies on how to bridge the energy and climate targets (2020 to 2030 and beyond), how you can manage your own energy and at the same time cut costs and enjoy a wide range of different benefits. Adrian Harris, Director General of Orgalime commented "The technologies are ready and waiting to be deployed - what is missing is the buy-in of our clients. Energy efficiency is actually the opportunity! This is what our practical showcases demonstrate today".

We believe that policymakers can do a lot, too! Firstly, we ask they set an energy efficiency commitment inside the 2030 Energy and Climate Framework without delay. Additionally, they should empower consumers in a truly completed and liberalised energy market, especially making the retail energy market more competitive, guaranteeing fair access to data for the development of appropriate services to the benefit of consumers [more]

Vision for the internal market for industrial products

Orgalime welcomes the European Commission's Communication titled 'A vision for the internal market for industrial products'. The Communication and its accompanying documents include several ambitious suggestions that could substantially improve the implementation of product related legislation and its enforcement. We are pleased to comment hereafter on the Communication and to also suggest ways to turn the Communication's proposals into effective actions.

While we comment on many of the points of the Communication quoting the relevant section with their number, we also wish to comment at the outset in more depth on the issue of market surveillance and its financing which we consider as a core issue and an issue which is central to the effective functioning of the internal market for products [more]

Response to public consultation on the ACER Green Paper 'Energy Regulation: A Bridge to 2025'

Our industry supplies technologies throughout the entire energy value chain, from generation, transmission, distribution to (private and industrial) end use, while it depends on reliable and continuous access and availability of energy at cost-reflective and efficient prices for its own manufacturing processes in Europe. The industry is also the target of the Eco design and Energy Labelling Directives, for which implementation is ongoing for some 46 product groups of our sector.

The European engineering industries would like to provide the following comments to ACER's priority questions subject to stakeholder consultation with the request for taking them into account in the further proceedings [ more]
Orgalime General Conditions S 2012 - Guide on their use and interpretation

Following the longstanding worldwide success of the Orgalime General Supply Conditions, a modern successor and alternative to ECE 188, and a branch standard for the mechanical, electrical and electronic engineering industry in Europe, a detailed commentary offering interpretations and explanations of the provisions of these conditions is a useful tool for all users.

The commentary in this guide focuses on the legal content of the provisions. It should therefore also be of interest to lawyers who come across S 2012 in connection with disputes or otherwise. Even if it is not necessary that general conditions should be interpreted in accordance with the intentions of their authors, it should merit a certain interest that the commentary has been written by many of the same authors who drew up the conditions [more

The Orgalime Secretariat now numbers 28 and there has been a slight reshuffle!

Given that in the Commission alone there are potentially some 14 Directorates General of direct interest to Orgalime, an effective input from Orgalime can only be achieved with the committed support of specialists from its member federations and European product sector committees.

See who they are and what they do! [more]

Sincerely,

Orgalime Secretariat
