Greetings from the Executive Director
Our Annual Meeting and Awards Dinner for 2014 has passed--congratulations to all of our Award winners and Milestone celebrants! What a lovely way to usher in the New Year.
I would also like to welcome our three new Board members; David Boyle, A-Z Storage & Properties; Andrew Shelffo, Williston Northampton School; and Steve Zavisza, Cernak Buick. I so look forward to working with you, as well as the entire Board, moving into 2015. We say good-bye to Pat Brough and Derek Allard, We shall miss you both, but do remember... you can run but you cannot hide! And we say hello to a new member of our Executive Committee, Dave DelVecchio, who moves into the position of Vice President!
I am delighted to share that we launched our very first "Monday Morning with the Mayor, Getting Down to Business about Business." This is a new partnership with Mayor Cadieux and the Chamber, where each month we meet at a different local business, offering the opportunity to gather in a casual setting for questions and honest conversation. Our first host was a most gracious Janel Jorda of Web-tactics. We enjoyed a great turnout and lively, diverse conversation focused around questions and concerns brought forward by our guests. Our next Monday Morning with the Mayor will be February 23, 8:00-9:00 a.m., hosted by Matt Waugh of Waugh Agency, LLC, located at Eastworks, 116 Pleasant St.
As so many of you know, the building of relationships, building trust and rapport, is vital to the building of your business and clientele. Monday Mornings with the Mayor, in addition to all the other events we offer, are an excellent way to become involved, engaged and make the most of your membership! I would encourage you to take advantage of these opportunities, and if you are interested in being a host, just call the Chamber office and we'll get you on the schedule. But don't hesitate-- the available spots are filling up fast, so call today! Speak with either Denise or me at 527-9414!
Ciao for now!

-- In Memoriam, Kim Stedman Hackworth --
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Kim Stedman Hackworth on Feb. 3, 2015, after a period of illness. Kim was well known to everyone at the Chamber as an active volunteer, board member, former president and friend.
Kim was a longtime resident of Easthampton and a graduate of Easthampton High School and Greenfield Community College. As an entrepreneur, Kim had been an active Chamber member since 1988, served on the Chamber's Executive Committee from 2001 to 2008, and was president from 2006 to 2007, chairing the Chamber's Fall Festival and Trade Show, golf tournament and other events. In addition, Kim volunteered with the Easthampton Kiwanis, the St. Patrick's Day Parade committee, Brightside for Children and Families, and Derrill's Race, and was coordinator of the Toasted Owl Run to benefit the Cutchins Programs for Children and Families.
Kim was an accomplished cook; she loved golf, gardening, skiing and the beach. She was researching the family genealogy and recently visited Ireland. "She was always ready to find humor in life's challenges...to Kim, every friend was treated as family."
Kim is survived by her daughters, son, sisters and many other loving family members and friends. Donations can be made in Kim's memory to the National Alliance for Mental Health Awareness of Western Massachusetts.

Member Spotlight: Rotary Club of Easthampton
The Chamber congratulates the Rotary Club of Easthampton for winning its 2014 Community Service Organization of the Year award, presented at the January annual meeting. Chartered on October 16, 1928, the local chapter of the Rotary Club represents Easthampton, Southampton, and Westhampton, and supports local schools and the community through monetary donations, fundraising, and volunteering in support of various events. In addition, the local chapter actively supports Rotary International's efforts to eradicate polio throughout the world. Funds are raised through many local Rotary events, including the annual Golf Tournament in June, Lobster Bake in September, Veteran's Day Breakfast, Food Drive in November, Children's Christmas Party, and annual scholarship program. View this video to learn more about the Rotary Club of Easthampton. One of the Rotary's most notable projects in recent years was the expansion of its pavilion in Nonotuck Park funded almost entirely through a partnership with Rotary International and the support of the Rotary club of Krakow. It also funded the installation of bus shelters in downtown Easthampton and donated to the Enrichment Center van and the Easthampton Community Center HVAC system upgrade. The club's 2015 initiative is its Stop Hunger Now event, building community support in bagging fortified meals that will be sent around the globe to wherever there is a need. The members will be funding and packing 10,000 bags and are challenging other businesses, groups, and individuals to match their donation.

The Future of Cancer Care
After years of careful and deliberate collaboration and planning, Cooley Dickinson Hospital and Massachusetts General Hospital Cancer Center have created a cancer center facility design and cancer care program that best meets the needs of Pioneer Valley residents, and their families, who face a cancer diagnosis. For local residents, this powerful working partnership demonstrates a visible and concrete example of the future of cancer care.
It was worth the wait. The first step in bringing the cancer center vision to reality was the renovation of the new Cooley Dickinson Hospital's Pharmacy. These changes allow Cooley Dickinson pharmacists to prepare chemotherapy according to Mass General Cancer Center treatment protocols.
This fall, construction of the cancer center facility - which repurposes existing clinical space and expands over the Emergency Department at the Locust Street campus - began, with an anticipated ribbon cutting in fall 2015.
Meanwhile, the Cancer Care Program is in full swing. All medical and radiation oncology evaluation and treatment is done by Mass General doctors under the direct supervision of Mass General clinical leaders in medical oncology and radiation oncology.
Other program features in place, or coming with the completion of the facility, include: videoconferencing, second opinion pathology, and image interpretation services with Mass General cancer sub-specialists; a multidisciplinary care model for some cancer types, where patients and their families will have the opportunity to meet with all their cancer doctors in a single visit; access to genetic testing and counseling, as well as Mass General Hospital Cancer Center clinical trials; and an increased number of innovative treatment plans in medical and radiation oncology.
