Member Spotlight: Easthampton Learning Foundation and ELF Ball

The ELF Finale Ball will take place on Saturday, March 1, 2014, from 6 p.m. to midnight at the Log Cabin Banquet and Meeting Hall, to benefit the
Easthampton Learning Foundation. A black-tie optional event, the ball will feature dinner, dancing, and silent and live auctions, including one-of-a-kind art, travel, autographed sports memorabilia, and event tickets.
The Easthampton Learning Foundation is a charitable organization that funds innovative, hands-on learning programs not funded by local school budgets. The total cost of the ELF Ball is underwritten by its sponsors, so 100% of the funds collected go toward its endowment. Formed in 1999, ELF expects to achieve $750,000 in assets in the endowment this year.
Teachers and staff members of Easthampton schools are eligible to apply to the foundation for ELF learning enhancement grants.

Entertainment will be provided by the Floyd Patterson Band. The event is 6 p.m. to midnight, with a cash bar and dinner from 7 to 8 p.m.
There are several ways to help with the ELF Ball: by becoming an event sponsor, by purchasing a ticket, or by donating or bidding on an auction item. Tickets to the ball are $50.00 and can be purchased from ELF board members:

Member News: ECA+ wins another Gold Star Award

Congratulations go to organizers from Easthampton City Arts+ (ECA+) for winning this year's Gold Star Award for excellence in community arts and culture. Awarded by the Massachusetts Cultural Council, the award recognizes the REACH exhibition and contemporary arts festival in Easthampton and Holyoke held in 2013.
The exhibition was funded in part by a state cultural grant awarded by the Easthampton Cultural Council. In April and May 2013, REACH curators created a contemporary arts festival that featured more than 30 artists and performers in nine venues in Easthampton and Holyoke. Installations, videos, sounds, sculptures and performances were among the offerings in venues from a storefront window to abandoned jail cells.
The Gold Star Awards are decided based on criteria including quality, how well the events reached out to underserved populations, educational value, and ability to engage with the community.
Two Easthampton projects were previously awarded Gold Star Awards. Art in the Orchard, a sculpture installation at Park Hill Orchard, took the award in 2013. In 2009, an award was given to ECA+'s Bear Fest, a citywide exhibit and festival featuring bear sculptures decorated by local artists.
