Member News: Five Star Building Corp Makes Landmark Purchase
Kev in Perrier, president of Five Star Building Corp., purchased the former Landry Furniture building at 119 Union St. in February. Originally the site of one of the largest button companies in the world in the 1800s, owned by Samuel Williston, Kevin has decided to name it the Button Building.
Kevin bought the building because he needed the space it offers, as his 13-year-old building company has outgrown its current space on East Street. He will occupy some of the second floor and will also handle renovations for interested tenants. He will be painting the outside of the building a a color that is more historically accurate, adding parking, new windows and a passenger elevator, and improving accessibility.
While he'll have offices upstairs, Kevin will lease the former Landry showroom downstairs to Chamber member Wayne Petlock, who owns Furniture Recyclers and currently has a shop at 31 Union St. Wayne plans to use both Union St. locations for his growing furniture collection.
Anyone interested in becoming a tenant should contact Kevin at 413.587.4060 or kperrier@fivestarcorp.net .

Member News: ECA+ Helps Inaugurate REACH Fest
REACH announces a contemporary arts festival with over 25 artists in a diverse roster of exhibitions and performances located in 9 venues in Easthampton and Holyoke, beginning Saturday, April 13 from 10 a.m. to 11 p.m. and continuing into May.
REACH was formed in 2012 by a group of organizers from Easthampton and Holyoke: Marjorie Latham, Denis Luzuriaga, Burns Maxey and Maggie Nowinski. All are practicing artists or affiliated with local arts organizations and museums. It began with the idea of connecting local and nationally known non-traditional artists in multiple locations in the Pioneer Valley.
REACH organizers decided to focus on Easthampton and Holyoke for this year's inaugural festival, with room for expansion in the future. Artists and performers invited by REACH curators include a dynamic selection of contributors who will be exhibiting installations, video, sculptures, sounds, and performances throughout REACH.
By bringing together REACH, organizers hope to bring focus to what is happening in the two cities, recognizing that Easthampton and Holyoke are destinations for contemporary art; introduce artists creating non-traditional work and instilling future collaborations between participants; bring unseen works to the community in the Pioneer Valley; and utilize a variety of spaces in the two host cities.
Easthampton locations include Eastworks, ECA+ Gallery, Apollo Grill, Popcorn Noir, and Rene's TV Service. More info can be found at the REACH website at http://www.reachfest.com/ or by contacting Burns Maxey, ECA+ Coordinator, at 413-527-8278.
