AT THE HOLIDAYS
A time to say THANKS
During the holiday season, I find time to think about all that I have been blessed with during the past year. Also, far too seldom throughout the year, do I also find that I do not say a simple "Thank You" enough!
To our Chamber Members...THANK YOU for persevering throughout what have been rocky economic times, helping to make Greater Easthampton such a fantastic place to work and live and for continuing to provide your support to keep the Chamber strong.
To our Chamber Board...THANK YOU for providing the leadership for your fellow members and for having the vision for the future of our Chamber.
To our Chamber Ambassadors...THANK YOU for taking the time out from your busy schedules to volunteer to assist us in the many Chamber projects and events.
To our Chamber Executive Assistant...THANK YOU, Denise, for all the little extras you do for us each and every day. Your dedication to the Chamber's mission is superb.
I wish you and yours the best for the Holidays and a very healthy and most prosperous New Year!

Eric Snyder, Executive Director

Member News: Rachel Connell Selected as Distinguished Young Woman
The Chamber congratulates Rachel Connell of Easthampton, selected as this year's Distinguished Young Woman Easthampton at a competition on Nov. 18 at the Academy of Music.
Easthampton's 47th annual Distinguished Young Women program awarded just over $16,000 in scholarships to this year's contestants. To compete in the Greater Easthampton competition, the girls must be high school seniors and live in Easthampton, Southampton, Westhampton, Williamsburg, Goshen or Chesterfield. This year, 15 girls were judged in the categories of scholastics, interview, talent, fitness and self-expression. The 3˝ hour program featured singing and dancing to the theme of "On Broadway."
In addition to the title, Rachel Connell won the Arline Hambley Community Service Award, after she spent her summer volunteering in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit at Baystate Medical Center in Springfield. She also won the Spirit Award, given to the girl who is the most enthusiastic, positive and compassionate throughout the two months of practice leading up to the show.
Abigail Edgin of Easthampton High School was the first runner-up, Cassandra Golob of Holyoke Catholic High School was the second runner-up, and Kelsey Bouthilette of Hampshire Regional High School was third runner-up.
Winners advance to state competition, at Distinguished Young Women of Massachusetts. The state winner then competes in the annual National Finals competition in Mobile, AL, in June 2013. All State winners will compete for a share of at least $150,000 in cash scholarships.

Area News: Valley Gives on 12.12.12
Valley Gives is a one-of-a-kind celebration of generosity for western Massachusetts. On 12.12.12, residents of Hampden, Hampshire and Franklin counties will join together for 24 hours in special events and online campaigns with the goal of getting thousands of Valley residents to make gifts to their favorite charities.
On that day, Valley Gives hopes to raise thousands of dollars to support 268 nonprofits in the region. Every gift that day will have greater impact, as participating nonprofits will be eligible on that day for special cash awards to fund their good work.
Here's how it works. When donors come to the Valley Gives website at http://valleygives.razoo.com/giving_events/VG12/home between midnight and 11:59 p.m. on 12.12.12, they will be able to make gifts to their favorite nonprofits. At the end of 24 hours, the top three nonprofits that have raised the most money and the top three nonprofits that have the most donors will be rewarded with special grants of $15,000, $10,000 and $5,000. The nonprofit in 12th place in each category will receive $1,200. In addition to those prizes, participating nonprofits will be eligible for special bonus gifts given between 11 a.m. and midnight to randomly selected winners.
Valley Gives is presented by the Community Foundation of Western Massachusetts. Joining this effort as partners are eight of the leading funding organizations serving western Massachusetts. Featured sponsors of this effort include Chamber members Easthampton Savings Bank and Doherty, Wallace, Pillsbury & Murphy P.C..
Chamber members who are participating charities are Cancer Connection, Inc., Clarke Schools for Hearing and Speech, Cooley Dickinson Hospital, Easthampton Community Center, Riverside Industries and United Way of Hampshire County.
