OCTOBER 2011

Get in the Spirit for the Holidays

Rotary holiday image

October is here and your Holiday  Spirit Committee is well underway with events to

help make the city a destination for the

Holiday season.

Their main focus is to raise the $10,000 needed to decorate our downtown with thousands of twinkling lights.  As you may know, the holiday lights are funded solely through Chamber fundraising events and contributions from our members and friends who wish to make our city bright and festive!

Holiday Spirit Events

Celebrity Bartending Night at Opa-Opa  -  October 24th

Join us from 6:00pm to 9:00 pm on Monday evening, October 24 at the Opa-Opa Steakhouse & Brewery at 169 College Highway, Southampton for a fun evening with local celebrity behind the bar serving up your favorite libations!  There will be raffles to benefit the Holiday Lights Fund and don't forget to tip the bartender generously as their tips all go to help light up downtown!

11th Annual Bowl-a-Thon at Canal Lanes  -  November 5th bowling

ALWAYS a fun day at Canal Lanes! Two great sessions of bowling, pizza for the bowlers and great raffles.  SIGN YOUR TEAM UP NOW for either the 3:00pm or 6:30pm starting time. You don't have a team, but want to help? Become a lane sponsor and we'll put up a sign showing your support for the Lights Fund.  We can always use raffle prizes too!

Holiday Stroll & Visit from Santa  -  December 2nd

santaThe Chamber's Holiday tradition steps off at 7:00pm from Maple Street School.  Children of all ages are invited to join us as we stroll our way through downtown Easthampton singing songs of the season!  We'll end up at Pulaski Park, enjoy cookies and hot choclate and await the arrival of Santa who will help us light up the park and meet with children in the Gazebo.

Annual Holiday Dinner Dance  -  December 15th

dinner danceCelebrate the Holidays with friends at our Annual Dinner Dance at The Log Cabin Banquet & Meeting House on Thursday evening, December 15th!  We'll have passed hors d'oeuvres, fabulous food stations and a lasvish dessert table along with a DJ to help you dance the night away.  Always a fun night with friends, plus the drawing for The BIG Raffle!

Mark your calendars now and save the dates today.  As you can see, there will be many oportunities to celebrate the upcoming Holidays and support your Chamber of Commerce.

KW Home
, Celebrating 10 Years in Business

KW Home logoKeith Woodruff is the owner of KW Home, a retail home furnishings and interior design business located on Cottage Street in Easthampton. Keith has operated the business since 2001 and is celebrating the 10th anniversary of his business this year.

Keith opened KW Home with the idea of providing people with a complete design center located right in the heart of western Massachusetts. Today, KW Home is one of the only stores in the area that provides shoppers and clients alike with premium home furnishings and interior design services.

"One of the things that people may not realize about my business is that my prices are not as high as they may think. They are competitive with Crate and Barrel and Pottery Barn, and I offer high-quality hard-to-find products," Keith said. "For example, I have the Robin Bruce line of upholstered furniture, and they stand behind their products; they warranty their frames for life and use eco-friendly materials."

Keith is planning a two-week event beginning Oct 22, with a store sale in which 10% of the profit of sales will be donated to the United Way in honor of KW Home's 10th anniversary. He is also working on a collaboration with four other Easthampton businesses, called "Quintessence Easthampton," to co-market their related products and services. The other businesses are White Square Bookstore, Nash Gallery, Harry King and Eastmont Framing/Elusie Gallery.

A resident of Florence, Keith has been in design for nearly twenty years. He has a degree in Interior Design from the Fashion Institute of Technology in Manhattan and worked for several years with the New York firm Michael DeSantis, Inc., where he oversaw several projects that were featured in Architectural Digest. He then served as the Designer on Staff at the Cedar Chest in Northampton before branching out on his own to start KW Home.

About working in the Valley, Keith said, "The best thing about it is working in an area that I enjoy living in. I enjoy my customers, helping them solve their problems with their home environments."

Keith has been a Chamber member since 2008. "The Chamber has helped me to connect with fellow business people in my community, to fundraise for different organizations, and overall to feel more connected to the Easthampton community."

Keith can be reached at 413-527-5936 or [email protected] , and more information about KW Home can be found on their website at

United Personnel Thrives in Easthampton

united personnel logo

United Personnel celebrates their first year at their new Easthampton office at
193 Northampton Street. Their move to a larger office in Easthampton was due to an increase in business that resulted in the addition of two new full-time staff members.

The staffing agency provides Human Resource solutions for the region's light industrial, medical, administrative and professional fields. United Personnel began in 1984 serving the Springfield area, and first opened up an office in Easthampton ten years ago. The agency as a whole has won many awards,
including Inc. Magazine's top 500 Fastest-Growing Companies Award two years in a row, several Chamber of Commerce awards including Small Business of the Year, and is a seven time winner of their Super 50/Super 60 award.

As a family and woman-owned business, UP has focused on maintaining lasting partnerships with its clients and field staff, as well as supporting the communities and cultural organizations in which it does business. "As individuals, we are all involved in serving our local communities," said Jennifer Miller Atwater, Branch Manager for the Easthampton Office. She herself currently serves on the Chamber's Board and has been a Chamber member for ten years; she is also serves on the board of the Ella Clark Home for Aged People in Easthampton.

You can contact Jennifer at (413) 527-7445, and find out more about United Personnel on their website at www.unitedpersonnel.com.
