The Holidays at the Chamber
Join Us for Great Events!

The Holiday season is quickly upon us and your Chamber Holiday Spirit Committee is hard at work on a raft of events!

A large part of that Committee's mission is to raise the $10,000 needed for Easthampton's downtown holiday lighting which brings thousands of twinkling lights in the trees lining Cottage, Union and Main Streets and a spectacularly decorated gazebo and trees at Pulaski Park as our City's Holiday centerpiece!  Your help is needed to reach our goal as the Chamber does not receive any direct funding from the City to light up our streets.

The first Holiday event will be our 10th Annual Holiday Lights Bowl-a-Thon on Saturday, November 6 at Canal Bowling Lanes in Southampton.  Although we already have sold out both bowling sessions with 160 bowlers, you can join us for either the 3:00pm or 6:30pm  sessions (or both!) to watch the fun and take a chance at our great prize or 50/50 raffles.

Monday, November 8th marks the Second Annual Holiday Lights Fundraising Party from 5:00pm to 7:00pm at Venus and The Cellar Bar at 95 Main Street, Easthampton.  There will be tasty, complimentary, hors d'oeuvres, a cash bar and an opportunity to make a donation to help us fund our lighting program.  If last year's party is any indication, you can be assured that a great time will be had by all!

The Holiday Spirit Committee's last, but certainly not least, event will be the annual Holiday Dinner Dance on Thursday, December 16 at the Log Cabin Banquet and Meeting House in Holyoke.  There will be bountiful passed hors d'oeuvres, a super selection of "stations format" entrees, and an array of tasty desserts.  As you spread holiday cheer among fellow members, there will be plenty of music to enjoy and dance to plus, we will be presenting the annual chamber awards and draw the lucky $5,000 Big Raffle winner!

On Friday evening, December 3, your family and friends are invited to one of Easthampton's great holiday traditions, the Chamber's Holiday Stroll and Visit from Santa.  Join us at Maple Street School and sing along with us as we stroll down Cottage Street with a stop at Nashawannuck Pond to light the tree, up Union Street then onto Pulaski Park where Santa will arrive to magically light the green's display.  There will be hot chocolate and cookies, plenty of holiday music and an opportunity for the kids to visit with Santa in the gazebo.

So as you can see, there will be plenty of opportunities to enjoy and experience the upcoming holiday season Chamber style!  Join us for one or all of these great events.  You'll be glad you did!

Member Spotlight - Pioneer Valley Ballet

pioneer valley ballet's logoPioneer Valley Ballet provides a unique opportunity for children throughout western Massachusetts to be trained in classical ballet. The pre-professional ballet training school prides itself on the graduates who have gone on to professional careers as well as the impressive productions they stage twice a year.

Founded in 1972, Pioneer Valley Ballet was located in Northampton until moved 8 years ago to Eastworks. Most students in classes perform in the public productions, which is different than dance schools recitals. Students audition for productions and perform alongside professional dancers. A typical Nutcracker performance includes 100 students, with a total of 250 performers in 6 shows.

In addition to training dancers for the spotlight, PVB is also dedicated to making dance available to all children. The school offers creative movement classes as an Easthampton after-school option. They also do outreach programs with area schools during which time students learn about everything that goes into a theater production. Last year, 400 students from Hampshire and Hampden Counties took part in theater field trips where they learned about choreography, costumes, music, and performance. Co-director Maryanne Delisle Kodzis describes PVB as a "resource for the community to keep the arts alive in the classroom."

The directors, staff, and board members of Pioneer Valley Ballet take advantage of their membership in the Greater Easthampton Chamber by posting to the online events calendar, advertising their shows in the Chamber's window, and hosting networking events.

This year's 32nd annual Nutcracker performance takes place December 10-12 at the Academy of Music in Northampton. In the spring, the company will perform Sleeping Beauty on April 2-3.

Area News - Westhampton Celebrates New Library

westhampton libraryFourteen years after it was begun, Westhampton residents celebrated the grand opening of their $2.1 million Westhampton Public Library. The new library features a 60-person community room, was fashioned in part from local materials, and has plenty of charm. It also features good insulation and new, energy-efficient windows, putting it on track to become LEED certified.

Library Building Committee member Laurie Sanders told MassLive that the library complex was paid for with state aid, $106,000 from the sale of the former Center School and lots of donations. People also contributed labor, putting in thousands of hours of volunteer work. This beautiful building was truly a community effort. The grand opening on Sunday 17 coincided with the town's Annual Fall Festival, which featured pumpkin rolling, corn shucking, cider pressing, and a 5K Walk/Run.

We are open Monday through Friday 8:30am to 4:00pm stop by 33 Union Street Easthampton, MA 01027. Please do not hesitate to give us a call (413) 527-9414 or send us an email
